June 5, 2004 — America lost one of its most consequential leaders.
On this day, World War II veteran and former president Ronald Reagan passed away at the age of 93 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
On a personal note, as a young Marine officer, I had the good fortune to work for President Reagan. He was a leader who made everybody else feel like they were the most important person in the room.
Whether admired for his optimism, his role in ending the Cold War, his economic policies, or his ability to connect with everyday Americans, Reagan left an undeniable mark on history.
He inherited a nation struggling with inflation, economic stagnation, and declining confidence. Through his unwavering belief in American exceptionalism, he challenged citizens to believe once again in the power of freedom, opportunity, and individual responsibility.
His famous challenge at the Berlin Wall still echoes through history:
"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
Yet Reagan's greatest strength may have been his ability to communicate hope. In an era often defined by division and uncertainty, he reminded Americans that leadership is as much about inspiration as it is about policy.
As we reflect on his passing 22 years ago, Reagan's words remain timeless:
"Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction."
Love him or disagree with him, Ronald Reagan's influence on America and the world remains impossible to ignore.
Requiescat in pace, sir… you were “Semper Fidelis!”
Semper Fi, and God Bless us… everyone… soldier, sailor, marine, coast guardsman, airman, guardian, military families and veterans.
Reagan at Pointe du Hoc:
"And so, the night before the invasion, when Colonel Wolverton asked his parachute troops to kneel with him in prayer he told them:
Do not bow your heads, but look up so you can see God and ask His blessing in what we're about to do."

Around Mother's Day 2022 we heard this story of a grandma KB fan not having much time left, and having her last two races be cancelled by COVID lockdowns.
