We can have a waitlist of kidney donors instead of 96,000 suffering patients waiting for a lifesaving kidney.
Half of them die while waiting.
Delighted to join @Mario_Macis & @KahnEthx at @NYPL to discuss donor compensation.
3 physician surveys & 5 public surveys found support for compensating living kidney donors for their public service.

NEW YORK LIVING DONORS: Has the NYS Living Donor Support Program helped cover your expenses? A reporter wants to speak with you!
When we fought to pass the New York State Living Donor Support Act, our goal was simple: make sure no one has to pay out-of-pocket or lose their paycheck just to save a life.
Today, the program is actively reimbursing living kidney and liver donors for lost wages, travel, and recovery costs—and now, a reporter is looking to tell this story.
Who we’re looking for:
A living kidney or liver donor who donated in New York State.
Someone who applied for and received reimbursement for lost wages, lodging, travel, or related expenses through the NYS Living Donor Support Program.
Willing to do a brief interview to share what the reimbursement meant for you and your family.
Highlighting real stories helps ensure lawmakers keep funding this vital program and lets future donors know this financial lifeline exists.
Interested or want more details?
Send me a direct message here on Facebook, drop a comment below, or email me directly at [email protected].
(If you know a fellow NY donor who might fit, please tag them or share this post!)
Pretty please, make sure you get your kidney health checked during your physical.
Most doctors won’t unless you request it.
Early diagnosis of CKD is critical for treatment success, and the condition can be detected using a simple and affordable urine test; however, the test isn't routinely used across all health care settings, and often only when kidney disease has already progressed.
