Yesterday, I had the honour of representing His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, at the presentation and launch of the biography of the late Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo (Jarman Kano), held at the Centre for Excellence, Bayero University, Kano.
The event celebrated the remarkable life, legacy, and contributions of the late statesman, whose commitment to the development of Kano State remains a source of inspiration for generations.
On behalf of His Excellency and the Kano State Government, I announced a donation of ₦20 million in support of the publication and preservation of the enduring legacy of the late Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo. This gesture reflects the administration’s commitment to honouring distinguished personalities whose service has positively shaped the history and progress of our state.
I equally advocated for the immortalization of this rare gem, whose contribution in the promotion of Kano reputation and development, shall forever remain on the minds of all Kano people, and shall remain a proud son of Kano
We commend the authors, organizers, and all those who contributed to documenting this important chapter of Kano’s history, and we pray that Almighty Allah grants the late Jarman Kano eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. Ameen.

2026 NATIONAL SPOKESPERSONS AWARD: WAIYA MAKES FINAL LIST OF BEST CRISIS COMMUNICATORS IN NIGERIA
The Kano State Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya has been named among the three finalists for the crisis communicator category of the 2026 National Spokespersons Awards.
The emergence of Comrade Waiya among finalists in Crisis Communication in Nigeria was conveyed in a letter dated June 22nd, 2026 signed by Segun Mcmedal, Chairman planning committee National Spokespersons Awards.
The letter reads in part "I m pleased to inform you that you have selected as finalist in the Crisis Communicator category of the National Spokespersons Awards (NS Awards)
The NS Awards organized by Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMAR) publishers of PR Nigeria and Spokespersons Digest, is Nigeria’s premier platform recognising excellence, integrity and impact in public communication.
PR Nigeria reported that the Chairman, Jury for the 2026 National Spokespersons Awards (NS Awards) Professor Saudat Abdulbaqi announced the finalists at the completion of the first and second phases of the Jury's assessment which produced 42 finalists across 16 categories in what organisers describe as one of the most competitive editions since the awards were established.
According to PR Nigeria, the National Awards, is Nigeria’s premier platform dedicated to celebrating excellence in strategic communication, public engagement and reputation management across public and private sectors. Jointly organized by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and Spokespersons Digest with a view to honoring outstanding individuals and corporate communication teams.
The Jury comprises academics, PR practitioners, journalists, and publishers on the selection exercise. The finalists represent some of the most outstanding communication professionals and institutions in Nigeria, reflecting the growing sophistication of the country’s communication ecosystem.
The 2026 National Spokesperson Awards ceremony scheduled to take place in August 2026 will feature the eventual unveiling of winners of the prestigious awards for the various categories.
Commenting on the process for the selection of the finalists, the Chairman, Panel of Jury said after an initial eligibility screening, 91 entries met the required standards—clarity of objectives, demonstrable impact, and verifiable evidence such as reports, publications, and digital links. These were then subjected to a more intensive second stage evaluation.
According to her, the Jury assessed all shortlisted entries using four core criteria: impact, innovation and originality, reach, and the quality of evidence submitted. She emphasised that the process was designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and credibility in identifying spokespersons and institutions that demonstrated excellence in public communication, media relations, crisis response, digital engagement, and strategic stakeholder management.
After the rigorous assessment and screening of the many entries in the Crisis Communicator category, Lere Olayinka of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Dan Nwomeh of the Enugu State Government, and Comrade Ibrahim Waiya of Kano State eventually emerged top three finalists.
The choice of Comrade Waiya among best communicators by the organisers of the National Spokespersons Awards add to the list of numerous awards and recognition received by Kano Information Commissioner who is in his second year at the Ministry.

When I assumed office as Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, I made a commitment that I would strengthen the capacity and welfare of our staff across board
Following the successful training and workshops organized for the officers on different skills, I on this day, 24th June, 2016, fulfilled another important promise, in futherence to several engagements and official assignments. The staff of the Ministry of Information and Intermal Affairs, at different layers, have consistently raised concerns regarding the inadequacy of working tools and mobility required to effectively discharge the official responsibilities.
By the grace of Allah, today we were able to empower all 44 Local Government Information Officers with iPhones, operational vehicles, and a stipend of ₦50,000 for plate number registration and fueling to support their daily routine as grassroot information managers
This intervention is driven by our determination to reposition information management in Kano State and expose our officers to the realities of the digital age. The communication landscape has evolved significantly from conventional media to digital and social media platforms, making it imperative for our officers to adapt and effectively engage citizens using modern tools and technologies.
Our objective is not only to enhance their productivity but also to make their work easier, improve the speed of information dissemination, strengthen government-citizen engagement, and ensure that accurate and timely information reaches the public.
This milestone reflects our commitment to building a professional, motivated, and technologically equipped information workforce capable of effectively projecting government policies, programmes, and achievements at the grassroots level.

As part of our commitment to building strategic partnerships for the safe corridor probramme, which is aimed at promoting peace, security, and sustainable development received another boost today as we paid a courtesy visit to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Garba Ahmed, at the Police Force Zone One Headquarters, in Kano.
The visit provided an opportunity to share the vision and objectives of the Safe Corridor programme, Kano Model, while exploring areas of building collaboration and partnersbip to support in achieving the fundamental goals of the programme such as: rehabilitation, reformation, empowerment and re integration, as well as prevention, through community-based approaches

Our discussions underscored the importance of collective action in addressing social challenges, promoting responsible citizenship, and creating opportunities that empower young people to become active contributors to the development of our dear state.

On behalf of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, I attended the Keystone Bank Ltd/KACCIMA SMEs Leather Support Program Exhibition and Marketplace, themed “Unlocking the Potential of Nigeria’s Leather Industry: Promoting Innovation, Value Addition and Sustainable SMEs Growth.”
The event served as an important platform for stakeholders to explore opportunities within Nigeria’s leather industry, promote innovation, encourage value addition, and strengthen the growth and sustainability of small and medium-scale enterprises.
In my remarks, I expressed Kano State Government appreciation to Keystone Bank and KACCIMA for their commitment to bringing this impactful initiative to Kano State. Such partnerships are critical to unlocking the immense potentials of the leather sector and creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, artisans, and businesses.
I also highlighted the efforts of His Excellency in complementing similar initiatives through strategic policies and programmes aimed at promoting industrialization, entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, youth empowerment, and economic development.

I further informed the gathering that, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, is planning to empower 50, 000 youth in this year alone, to support youth empowerment and development in the State to mitigate youth vulnerability to crimes and other social vices
On 22nd June, 2026, I had the honour of representing His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, at the launch of the @HP Gaming Garage programme at @SkylineUNigeria
I expressed my appreciation to Skyline University for championing and facilitating the implementation of this innovative initiative, which is aimed at equipping young people with digital skills, creativity, and emerging technology competencies. Such programmes are critical in preparing our youths for the opportunities presented by the rapidly evolving digital economy.
I also highlighted the commitment of the Kano State Government to promoting technology, innovation, and digital media as key drivers of socio-economic development. Under the leadership of His Excellency, the government remains dedicated to creating an enabling environment for digital transformation through investments in ICT, capacity building, and partnerships that empower young people with relevant technological skills.
Initiatives such as the HP Gaming Garage programme complement the state’s vision of building a knowledge-based economy and nurturing a generation that is innovative, technologically driven, and globally competitive. I therefore commend Skyline University and all partners involved for their foresight and commitment to advancing digital education and youth empowerment in Kano State.
On Thursday, 18 June, 2026 I had the honour to represent His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the 2 day, NUJ National Security Summit organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, with the theme: MEDIA AND SECURITY AGENCIES AS PARTNERS IN NATION BUILDING.
During the provramme I highlighted the state government’s efforts in improving security and engaging youths in peace-building initiatives, while urging for a deeper collaboration with the media to sustain public confidence and social stability
I have also reitirated the need for enhanced collaboration with security agencies improve public safety for the general wellbing of the Nigerians
I informed the gathering of the highest representives of the pen profession that, the State Government under the Safe Corridor Programme, that over 3,040 youths have so far embraced the non kinetic peace initiatives, and have been enrolled in the government intervention programmes, designed to rehabilitate, empower and reintegrate the repentatant youths into the society.
I equally informed the august gethering that, the first phase of the pilot programme is expected to commence with 1,000 repentant youths, with the state government committing more than ₦500 million to support its implementation.
I also announced that, Kano State Government has established Kano State Security and Neighborhood Watch Corps, with the recruitment of 2,000 young men and women traned on local community policing, and have since commenced their work across 44 Local Goverment Council Areas in the State. Also in the same vein, I informed the gathring of another specialised Anti-illicit drug and phone-snatching force, as part of measures to address emerging security concerns across the state, prowning at the particular heinous culture of phone snatching, which sometimes result in loss of innocent lives
I explained that the initiative was introduced in response to the increasing cases of phone snatching and related street crimes that had become a major source of concern. At first more than 600 young men and women have been recruited and trained to confront the challenge, noting that the intervention has already begun yielding positive outcomes.
I shared with the gathering that, the security squad has recorded successes in identifying criminal networks, recovering stolen mobile devices, arresting suspects, and strengthening public trust in urban security operations.
I added that the activities of the task force have contributed to a noticeable reduction in phone theft incidents and improved safety in several parts of Kano State.
Beyond security operations, I emphasized the critical role of the media in promoting peace, security, and national development.
I also called on journalists and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists to remain committed to responsible journalism, fact-checking, conflict-sensitive reporting, and public awareness campaigns.
I also observed that in an age of fast-moving information, professional and accurate reporting remains essential in preventing panic, countering misinformation, and reinforcing public confidence in security institutions.
Reaffirming our administration’s commitment to partnership, Governor Yusuf administration would continue working closely with the media and other stakeholders to build a safer, more secure, and prosperous society.
I attributed the progress recorded in the security sector to purposeful leadership, strategic partnerships, institutional coordination, and collective stakeholder support, while pledging sustained investment in security infrastructure and policies aimed at guaranteeing lasting peace, stability, and social cohesion
KANO GOVERNOR NOMINATED FOR AWARD OF EXCELLENCE IN SECURITY GOVERNANCE
The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been nominated for the Award of Excellence in Security Governance by the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies (ISSS), Abuja, in recognition of his administration's outstanding performance in peace, security, and social stability in the state.
The nomination letter was received by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on behalf of the Governor which was presented by a delegation from the Institute led by its Director, Dr. Henry Nwokoji.
Speaking during the presentation, Dr. Nwokoji disclosed that the nomination followed a comprehensive research and assessment conducted by the Institute across the seven North-West states. He said the findings showed that Kano State ranked highest in security resilience, policy implementation, and institutional response to security challenges.
According to him, the research revealed that Kano State has distinguished itself in managing insecurity through effective leadership, strong political will, and strategic interventions aimed at addressing the root causes of crime and social unrest.
The Director particularly commended the Safe Corridor Initiative introduced by Governor Yusuf, describing it as a unique deradicalization and rehabilitation programme designed to prevent youths involved in drug abuse and other social vices from drifting into banditry, kidnapping, and violent extremism.
Receiving the nomination letter, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs expressed gratitude to the Institute for recognizing the efforts of Governor Yusuf in promoting peace and security. He noted that the recognition was a reflection of the Governor's deliberate commitment to supporting the security sector.
Comrade Waiya highlighted several initiatives introduced by the administration, including the establishment of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps, which has recruited and trained over 2,000 young men and women who have been absorbed into the state civil service and deployed across the 44 Local Government Areas.
He explained that the state government has provided operational vehicles, motorcycles, uniforms, and office facilities to the corps with a view to enhancing community-based security operations and support conventional security agencies.
The Commissioner also revealed that the administration established the Anti-Phone Snatching Squad to strengthen efforts toward combating crime and maintaining public safety across the state.
On the Safe Corridor Initiative, Comrade Waiya disclosed that more than 3,000 youths had voluntarily embraced the programme, while Governor Yusuf has approved over 400,000.00 million for its implementation, adding that the first phase of the programme would involve the rehabilitation of 1,000 youths through a 40-day camping in collaboration with National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
He further stated that beneficiaries of the programme would be supported with educational and vocational opportunities to facilitate their reintegration into the society, thereby reducing crime and promoting sustainable peace.
The Commissioner attributed the relative peace and stability enjoyed in Kano State to the Governor's inclusive style of governance, strong collaboration with security agencies, and the support of the people. He assured the delegation that the nomination letter and accompanying research report would be formally presented to Governor Yusuf, while reaffirming the administration's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

Kano State maintains Lead as Rotational Voters Registration Exercise Expands Across Senatorial Zones
A strategic meeting of the Kano State Task Force Committee on the Mobilization of Voter Registration was held on the 11th June, 2026 at the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, under the chairmanship of Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, bringing together members of the Committee and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to review the progress of the ongoing voters registration exercise, and to re- strategize for the remaining weeks before the expiry of the 3rd and last phase of the nation wide voters registration exercise
The meeting, which comsolidated on earlier engagements, was highly productive, with participants reviewing achievements recorded so far under the ongoing voter registration drive in the State. It was noted that Kano State currently ranks top amongst states in terms of the number of the people who have registered, especially in the category of the physical registration, reflecting the success of the sustained awareness campaigns and coordinated mobilization efforts across communities and institutions.
In line with the efforts towards achieving the anticipated milestone in this phase of the exercise, the Committee, in collaboration with INEC, has finalized arrangements for a large-scale of mobilization of Voter Registration amongst the Kano citizens, targeting other communities across the three senatorial zones of the state.
The exercise is scheduled to commence on Monday, 15th June, 2026, and will run daily from 9:00am to 3:00pm, Wudil, Bichi and Kano Central
The Committee emphasized that the initiative is part of broader efforts to deepen civic participation, particularly among young people and students, while ensuring that eligible residents across all zones are fully captured in the voter register.
The Kano State Government under the able leadership of His excellency, the executive Governor of Kano state, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, reaffirmed its commitment to support all stakeholders in this exercise, to achieving a seamless, inclusive and transparent registration process, while calling on eligible residents of Kano, especially students and youths have attained eighteen years of age, to take full advantage of the opportunity to register and become eligible voters in the 2027 general elections

The discussion focused on strengthening rehabilitation frameworks, youth empowerment initiatives, capacity development, and sustainable pathways for social reintegration.

Yesterday, being the first day of Eid adhar, and in the spirit of unity, peace, and togetherness that defines this blessed Eid celebration, we joined His Royal Highness, the Emir of Rano, Alh. Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru, Autan Bawo, observed the Eid prayer on behalf of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf
May this season continue to strengthen the bond between the good people of Kano State, leadership, and traditional institutions for a more peaceful and prosperous Kano State.

The delegation from the Kano State Government attended the Eid prayer at the Rano Emirate Council, led by the State APC Chairman, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa.

We were received by His Royal Highness, Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Isa Umar (Autan Bawo), the Emir of Rano, during Eid adhar Prayer
The occasion featured special prayers for peace, unity, and continued progress in Kano State and Nigeria at large, especially as Muslim faithfuls marked the Eid festivities in the atmosphere of peace, harmony and brotherhood.
On behalf of the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, I warmly felicitate with the good people of Kano State and the entire Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid al-Adha. As we mark this blessed celebration of sacrifice, obedience, and compassion, I urge all residents, especially our youths, to celebrate peacefully, remain law-abiding, and continue to support the collective efforts toward maintaining peace, unity, and development in our dear state. May Almighty Allah accept our acts of worship and bless Kano State and Nigeria with enduring peace and prosperity. Eid Mubarak.
