In times of tribulations, a believer should be cautious about letting their tongue loose when expressing opinions, as words in such times can be like bullets. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever remains silent is saved,” and this Hadith is especially applicable during times of fitan (tribulations).

Of course, human nature may push you to speak and to take the lead in commenting on events, but Islam teaches us discipline and wisdom, showing us that this is neither rational nor wise.

If we observe the senior scholars, we find them silent—not out of weakness or fear, but because the situation is too sensitive to bear careless words.

We ask Allah for well-being and safety and to protect everyone.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever honors the Sultan, Allah will honor him; and whoever humiliates the Sultan, Allah will humiliate him.”

Ibn Uthaymeen said:

Mocking the orders of the Sultan (ruler) when he commands something, saying: “Look at what they are saying,” or when the Sultan does something this person disapproves of, and he says: “Look, look at what he did,” intending to belittle the Sultan’s authority in the eyes of the people—this behavior leads to people disrespecting the Sultan. When people disrespect the Sultan, they disregard his commands and do not avoid his prohibitions.

This is why the one who humiliates the Sultan by spreading his faults among the people, criticizing him, mocking him, or exposing him publicly is subject to humiliation by Allah, the Almighty. If the Sultan is humiliated in such matters, the people will rebel against him, disobey him, and chaos will ensue. Consequently, such a person becomes a source of evil and earns Allah’s humiliation.

If Allah humiliates this person in this world, then he has already received his punishment. However, if he is not humiliated in this world, he is liable to be humiliated in the Hereafter, and we seek refuge with Allah from that. The Prophet’s statement is true: “Whoever humiliates the Sultan, Allah will humiliate him.”

On the other hand, “Whoever supports the Sultan, Allah will support him,” because supporting the Sultan aids in good and righteousness. If you clarify to the people what is obligatory for them towards the Sultan and help them obey him in matters that do not involve disobedience to Allah, this is a great good—a support for righteousness and piety.

We ask Allah for protection from what angers Him and for success in what He loves and is pleased with.
