Today my pastor preached on Jacob wrestling with the Lord.

Jacob’s name was heel catcher and he spent his whole life reaching out and grabbing what didn’t belong to him.

Then he grabbed onto the Lord. And wrestled with him. But he was really wrestling with his own sin, his own dishonestly, his own flesh.

But he didn’t let go of the Lord. Even when the Lord but touched his hip and threw it out of socket. And he cried out for what we all should be reaching for and holding onto fiercely. More fiercely than money, power, fame, influence, material goods- he cried out “bless me Lord”

And by grace through his faith that the Lord could and would bless him despite his many sins, he was blessed.

I am a sinner. I have done wrong! I’ve lied. I’ve been lazy. I’ve fornicated. I’ve been arrogant. But I believe that God can bless me and remake me in His image. With His righteousness replacing my unrighteousness. In Him I will overcome!

I won’t let go until you bless me Lord!

People get caught up in needing to prove they’re wealthy. It’s a trap. I will never do it. You’ll never get me. Can’t tempt me.

I will not come down to that level.

I’ve seen old men. I’ve seen young men. All craving the same thing. Validation from random people who do not care about them. Keep your success silent.

Do not give it to the world.
The world will take it and twist it against you. Keep them at a distance.

For the Lord says: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Romans 12:2

Also do not put your wealth on display. This world is not a museum and you’re not inside a showcase. People will attack you for not showing off. Do not take the bait!!!

Scripture says: “People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

The spirit of the world feeds off comparison. Social media has corrupted so many young minds. Depression follows.

This is not just cultural it’s spiritual warfare. Satan’s first temptation was comparison.

Satan told Eve she was missing something God had withheld. The same voice now whispers to you after success: “Prove it. Show them, show your bank account, you must or you’re not credible.”

WRONG!!!! Then if you don’t, Satan will have others attack you. They’ll say those words to you again. You must RUBUKE IT ALL IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST.

Wealth is not of this world.
Think of all the material things you want.

God says “if you ask you shall receive”
But do you ask for wisdom or money?

Wisdom is worth more than gold.
Do not chase the wind.
Do not prove yourself to mankind.

“Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.” Proverbs 27:2

And always guard your heart.

When people online provoke you to prove something. your wealth, your success, your worth. they’re not just testing your wallet, they’re testing your HEART!!!

He couldn’t even bend his knees to pray. He didn’t say the sinner’s prayer and among other things, he was a criminal and he was worthy of death. Jesus didn’t take way his pain, heal his body, or smite his scoffers.

He was a thief who walked into paradise the same hour as Jesus simply by believing.

He had nothing more to offer other than his belief that Jesus was who He said He was. No spin from brilliant theologians. No ego or arrogance.
No shiny lights, skinny jeans, or crafty words.
No haze machine, donuts, or coffee in the lobby.

Just a naked dying man on a cross unable to even fold his hands to pray.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that WHOEVER believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.
