Stocks move up and down,

It did yesterday,

It does today, and

It will do tomorrow.

They will be in one of the four market stages.
The trick to generating alpha is to identify each stage.

Stage Analysis:

Stage I: The Basing Area/Consolidation Stage:

The stock trades in range i.e. the stock loses momentum during the phase.

The stage occurs after either the stock has been declining for several months or the stock has been increasing for several months.

The trading volumes usually dry up when the stock in Stage I.

It means the average traded volumes of the stock lessens compared to that during the declining/advancing phage.

Identifying with reference to 30 Week Moving Average.

Initially the 30-week Moving Average loses its downside/upside slope, and it starts to flatten out.

The stock price keeps moving above, below the 30W MA, forming a trading range.

There will be several swings between support at the bottom of range and resistance at the top of the range.

Actionable during Stage I:

People try to catch the bottom at this stage, to catch the exact low of the stock.

However, even if someone can catch the exact low, the money could be idle for a long time without any bigger movement.

Some investors end up losing the patience and liquidating the investments just before the big move starts.

The mature traders keep the stock in their watchlist and plan the trade to be executed once the stock breaks out of Stage I.
