Two employees. One promotion. And everything that exists in between.
Working in the same company, both competing for one coveted promotion.
What begins as a rivalry slowly becomes something harder to define—somewhere between ambition, friendship, and feelings.

💛The Love They Kept Choosing
Atom and Lexi had never been the kind of couple who needed to announce their love.
They simply lived it.
A late-night dinner after Atom's taping. A quick mall stroll where they would argue playfully over what to eat.
Lexi waiting for him after work, pretending she wasn't tired just because she wanted to see him.
Atom dropping by her condominium with food because he knew she had skipped dinner.
Sometimes, they attended events together.
Sometimes, they partied with friends together.
Sometimes, they didn't do anything special at all.
And somehow, those ordinary moments had become their favorite ones.
Until their careers began asking them to choose between what was easy for their hearts and what was necessary for their dreams.
Atom and Lexi belonged to different television networks.
And Atom's management had begun to see a problem.
They wanted Atom to be recognized as Atom—a solo artist, an individual, a performer who could stand on his own.
Not half of a loveteam.
Not "Atom and Lexi."
Not someone's boyfriend.
Just Atom.
So one evening, Atom sat across from Lexi in her condominium, unusually quiet.
Lexi noticed immediately.
"What's wrong?"
Atom took a breath.
"Lex..."
"Hmm?"
"I need to tell you something."
She put down the drink in her hand.
Atom reached for her hand.
"My management wants me to keep our relationship
lowkey."
Lexi blinked.
"What do you mean?"
"They don't want us to be seen together anymore."
The words hung between them.
"No mall dates. No events together. No parties. No pictures. No public sightings."
Lexi stared at him.
"So..."
Atom swallowed.
"For now, if we want to see each other, it has to be private. Your condo. My house. Somewhere we won't be seen."
Lexi forced a small smile.
"Okay."
Atom looked at her carefully.
"Are you okay?"
She nodded.
"Of course."
But Atom knew her.
He knew the difference between Lexi's real smile and the smile she gave when she was trying not to make someone worry.
He squeezed her hand.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
"I don't want this either."
"I know."
"I just... I need to establish myself."
Lexi looked at him for a long moment.
Then she smiled again.
"Then do it."
Atom's eyes softened.
"Lex—"
"I want you to succeed."
There was a tiny ache in her chest when she said it.
Because she knew what she was agreeing to.
She knew she would miss him.
She knew she would miss being able to simply reach for his hand whenever she wanted.
But she loved him.
And sometimes loving someone meant making room for their dreams—even when those dreams temporarily made your own heart hurt.
So she nodded.
"I'll support you."
Atom pulled her into his arms.
"Thank you."
Lexi closed her eyes against his chest.
She didn't tell him that she was already missing the life they were about to lose.
-
💛The Disappearing Couple
At first, it was difficult.
Very difficult.
Lexi had been used to seeing Atom whenever she missed him.
Sometimes she would simply text:
I miss you.
And Atom knew exactly what that meant.
Come see me.
Or:
Let's go somewhere.
But now, those three words had to mean something different.
I miss you.
And instead of driving somewhere together, Atom would reply:
I miss you too. I'll come to your condo after work.
Their dates became quiet.
Their love became hidden.
Their favorite restaurants no longer saw them together.
Their usual mall became somewhere they could only visit separately.
Parties became something they attended with different groups.
And the public noticed.
Days passed.
Then weeks.
Then months.
The sightings disappeared.
No Atom and Lexi.
No photos.
No casual videos from fans.
No event appearances together.
No mall pictures.
Nothing.
And eventually, the fans began to talk.
"Did they break up?"
"They haven't been seen together in months."
"I think they're over."
"Maybe it was just a loveteam thing."
The rumors grew.
Ironically, the people who knew them best knew the opposite was happening.
They weren't falling apart.
They were simply learning how to love each other quietly.
Learning to Miss Someone
Lexi struggled in the beginning.
She missed their date nights.
She missed walking beside Atom while he casually placed a hand on her back.
She missed shopping together.
She missed sitting beside him at parties.
She missed those stupid little moments that didn't seem important until suddenly they weren't allowed anymore.
Sometimes she would type:
I miss you.
Then stare at the message.
Delete it.
Type again.
Delete it again.
She didn't want to distract him.
She knew Atom was busy.
She knew how badly he wanted his career to grow.
So instead of asking him to come over every time she missed him, she began waiting.
If Atom had a free night, he would message:
Are you home?
And she'd smile.
Yes.
I'll pick you up.
Or sometimes:
I'm coming over.
And those nights became precious.
No cameras.
No fans.
No management.
Just them.
Two people sitting on a couch, eating takeout, talking about their day.
It wasn't the same.
But it was theirs.
Eventually, Lexi learned to live with it.
She also began asking Atom before making plans.
"Can I go out with my friends tonight?"
"Of course."
"Is it okay if I go with Trixie and Justin?"
"Why are you asking permission?"
"Because you're my boyfriend."
Atom smiled.
"You don't need permission to have friends."
"I know. I'm just checking."
And slowly, Lexi started going out more.
She attended events with friends.
She bonded with workmates.
She went to parties without Atom.
She laughed.
She worked.
She lived.
And from the outside, it looked like she had moved on.
Which only made the rumors worse.
-
💛The Girl Who Was Learning
While Atom was building his career, Lexi became busier too.
Movie shoots.
Photoshoots.
Guest appearances.
Endless rehearsals.
Long days.
She stopped waiting around for Atom.
Not because she loved him less.
But because she had learned something.
Loving someone didn't mean putting your life on pause while waiting for them.
She could love Atom and still grow.
And Atom slowly began noticing the change.
Her messages became less frequent.
The I miss you texts became rare.
She stopped asking when they could go on dates.
She stopped asking him to come over.
She stopped making lambing.
Whenever Atom had time, he would be the one to ask.
And Lexi would simply say:
"Okay. Just tell me when."
She wasn't cold.
She wasn't distant.
She was simply becoming stronger.
And Atom was proud of her.
Or at least, he thought he was.
-
💛Music Room
Then came Atom's Music Room performance.
It was supposed to be another career milestone.
A chance for him to show everyone that he could stand alone.
But anyone paying close attention would have noticed something.
Every song he chose sounded like Lexi.
Every introduction somehow circled back to her.
Before one song, Atom smiled toward the audience.
"There are people you don't get to see every day..."
He paused.
"But somehow, they're still the reason you wake up wanting to be better."
Then he sang.
Another song came.
Another introduction.
Another quiet message hidden between the lines.
And when Atom walked onto the stage wearing a cardigan with a tiny "L" printed on it, some fans noticed.
They screamed.
Atom simply smiled.
Because the letter wasn't for them.
It was for her.
Lexi.
She might not be standing beside him.
She might not be allowed to be seen with him.
But he carried her with him anyway.
And that night, Lexi was there.
She had come quietly.
She sat with Trixie and Justin, pretending she was
simply there with friends.
But Atom saw her.
The moment their eyes met, his face lit up.
The entire performance suddenly felt different.
His girl was there.
She had found a way to support him without putting his career at risk.
And Atom couldn't stop smiling.
-
💛The Fancon
Months later, their friends Jade and Edward held a fancon.
Atom arrived first.
He had just finished taping his noontime show and went straight there.
He sat toward the back.
Cheering.
Laughing.
Supporting his friends.
An hour later, Lexi arrived.
She had come directly from a movie shoot.
She entered quietly, looking tired but happy.
She didn't notice Atom.
She sat down.
Then suddenly—
Someone gently squeezed her hair.
Lexi frowned.
She turned around.
Atom.
Her eyes widened.
"Ikaw?"
Atom grinned.
Without saying anything, he leaned forward.
"Beso."
Lexi smiled.
She leaned toward him too.
Their cheeks touched.
Just a simple beso.
Nothing dramatic.
Nothing scandalous.
But when they pulled away, Atom's face betrayed him.
He looked ridiculously happy.
Like someone had just given him the best gift in the world.
Because for a few seconds, he was allowed to be her boyfriend in public again.
Even if nobody else noticed.
Even if it was only a tiny moment.
It was enough.
Or so he thought.
The Moment Everything Changed
Lexi eventually had to leave.
"I have to go back to the shoot."
Atom nodded.
"Okay."
She turned toward him.
"Beso."
He leaned forward.
Then Lexi kissed her manager goodbye.
She looked back at Atom.
She smiled.
And simply waved.
"Bye."
Atom waited.
He expected something else.
Maybe:
Hatid mo ako.
Maybe she'd ask him to walk her out.
Maybe she'd hold onto his arm.
Maybe she'd make lambing.
But she didn't.
She simply smiled and walked away.
Atom watched her disappear.
Something inside him sank.
He remembered another time.
Lexi had been a muse at a basketball event.
Her feet were tired.
She had looked at him with that familiar expression.
"Wait for me."
Then, with a little smile:
"Pagod na paa ko."
And eventually, she had asked him for a piggyback ride.
That was Lexi.
Clingy.
Sweet.
Lambing.
His girl.
But the woman who had just walked away from him?
She hadn't asked him for anything.
She didn't even look back.
And suddenly, Atom understood.
She had learned how to stand on her own.
Because he had asked her to.
And for the first time, the thought terrified him.
What if she doesn't need me anymore?
What if I taught her how to live without me... and now she realizes she can?
His chest tightened.
What if I'm slowly losing her because of this?
-
💛After-Party
That night, Jade and Edward had an after-party.
Atom went.
But his mind wasn't there.
He drank more than usual.
He laughed loudly.
He became restless.
And then he messaged Lexi.
Come here.
She was still at the shoot.
Atom, I'm still working.
Please.
She hesitated.
Then another message came.
I want to see you.
That was enough.
She went.
The moment Atom saw her enter, his entire face changed.
He lit up.
"Lex!"
He walked toward her immediately.
He hugged her.
Then he invited her to dance.
Later, at the table, he kept her beside him.
His arm stayed around her waist.
His hand rested on her.
Every few minutes, he leaned toward her just to talk.
As if making sure she was still there.
As if letting go for even a second might make her disappear.
Lexi noticed.
She also noticed the alcohol.
"Atom."
"I'm okay."
"You've been drinking a lot."
"I'm okay."
But he wasn't.
Something was eating him alive.
Eventually, his emotions spilled over.
He became maoy—too loud, too emotional, too restless.
Lexi gently touched his face.
"Hey."
Atom looked at her.
"Let's go."
He frowned.
"Where?"
"Somewhere we can talk."
He stared at her.
Then nodded.
-
💛What If I Lose You?
They found somewhere quiet.
The noise of the party disappeared behind them.
For a few seconds, neither spoke.
Then Atom broke.
"I'm sorry."
Lexi looked at him.
"For what?"
"For all of this."
He rubbed his face.
"The no sightings. The hiding. Everything."
"Atom—"
"I agreed to it because I thought it was what I needed to do."
His voice cracked.
"And maybe it is."
He looked at her.
"But tonight..."
He swallowed hard.
"When you left earlier..."
Lexi's expression softened.
"I saw you."
"I know."
"No."
Atom shook his head.
"I saw something in your eyes."
Lexi didn't answer.
"You weren't asking me to come with you."
He laughed bitterly.
"You didn't even ask me to hatid you."
A tear fell.
"I thought..."
He stopped.
Then finally said it.
"Am I losing you?"
Lexi's heart broke.
"Atom..."
"Did I push you too far?"
He stepped closer.
"Did I teach you how to live without me?"
He hugged her tightly.
"Because I'm scared, Lex."
His voice broke completely.
"I'm scared that while I'm trying to reach my dreams, I'm losing you."
Lexi wrapped her arms around him.
Atom buried his face against her shoulder.
Then came the question that broke her heart.
"Para saan pa lahat ng pag-abot sa pangarap ko kung mawawala ka rin sa akin?"
Lexi closed her eyes.
"I won't disappear."
"I saw it in your eyes."
"You saw that I changed."
"Exactly."
She gently held his face.
"Because I had to."
Atom looked at her.
"I'm hurting too."
That surprised him.
Lexi smiled sadly.
"You think I don't miss our dates?"
A tear rolled down her cheek.
"I miss everything."
"I miss walking with you."
"I miss going to the mall with you."
"I miss parties."
"I miss being able to text you 'I miss you' and know that you'll come running."
Atom's eyes filled again.
"But..."
She touched his cheek.
"My love for you is bigger than that pain."
He stared at her.
"I want you to fly, Atom."
She smiled through her tears.
"I want you to soar."
"You are not a hindrance to me."
"I would never want to be."
"I love you too much to make you choose between me and your dreams."
Atom shook his head.
"But did I push you to become independent just so I could lose you?"
Lexi smiled.
"No."
She wrapped her arms around him.
"You didn't lose me."
"I just learned how to stand beside you without needing to hold your hand every second."
Atom's tears finally fell.
Lexi whispered:
"I'm still your girl."
Atom hugged her tighter.
"I love you so much."
"I love you too."
He closed his eyes.
For a moment, neither of them said anything.
They simply held each other.
Two people who had spent months trying to prove that
their love could survive distance, silence and secrecy. And finally, they understood.
It wasn't the public sightings that kept them together.
It was the choice to keep choosing each other.
Enough
Atom wiped his tears.
Then he laughed quietly.
"Fuck this."
Lexi raised an eyebrow.
"What?"
"This no-public-sighting thing."
She laughed.
"Atom!"
"I'm serious."
He held her waist.
"I'm not going to let you feel forgotten."
He looked directly into her eyes.
"Career is important to me."
"But so are you."
"I can be Atom the artist and still be Atom your boyfriend."
Lexi smiled.
"Okay."
"And I'm going to make sure you know that."
-
💛The Next Party
A few days later, Pres Beauty invited Atom to a bar party.
Before, Atom probably would've gone alone.
This time, he didn't.
He picked up his phone.
Come with me.
Lexi smiled when she saw the message.
When she arrived, Atom's face immediately lit up.
He walked toward her.
Held her waist.
Pulled her close.
"Hi."
"Hi."
"You're pretty."
"You've seen me before."
"I know."
He grinned.
"I just missed saying it."
And throughout the night, Atom stayed close.
They danced.
They laughed.
They talked.
He kept his arm around her.
Sometimes he leaned toward her just because he could.
Sometimes he looked at her with the same expression he had worn at the fancon—the expression of someone who had almost forgotten how good it felt to have the person he loved beside him.
Their relationship wasn't suddenly loud.
It wasn't a declaration to the world.
It didn't need to be.
Because somewhere between the months of hiding and the fear of losing each other, Atom and Lexi had discovered something more important than being seen.
They had learned how to love each other even when nobody was watching.
And now, when the world allowed them a little freedom, Atom wasn't going to take it for granted.
He held Lexi closer.
She rested her head against his shoulder.
And Atom smiled.
Because she was still there.
Still his.
Still choosing him.
And this time, he promised himself he would never make her wonder whether she was being left behind while he chased his dreams.
He would fly.
She would fly too.
And somehow—
They would find a way to soar together.
