What happened to her was awful, and victims deserve every ounce of empathy, support and justice. But the primary duty of the police is not to provide therapy, it is to protect life and property.

Frontline policing is about quick thinking, impartiality, professionalism and courage under pressure. Officers are sometimes required to incapacitate violent suspects, make arrests, use force and, in the most extreme circumstances, use lethal force to protect innocent lives. That is the harsh reality of policing, and we should not shy away from saying so.

Empathy has its place, particularly for victims, but it cannot come at the expense of decisive action. I can only assume these remarks had the blessing of senior command, because too often there seems to be a reluctance to speak plainly for fear of stirring up community tensions.

What frontline officers need is not carefully managed messaging, but senior leaders who will unequivocally back lawful, proportionate action taken to keep the public safe. Without that support, morale suffers, public confidence declines, and policing itself is weakened.

The police are not social workers; they are society’s last line of defence when everything else has failed.

I asked the Minister, if one of his Government's priorities was to put large Solar Farms on prime agricultural land, or if he, as Minister for farming, would look to stop any significant solar farms that include prime agricultural land, to ensure that we have every means possible to create that sustainable food nation, if that is indeed is his true intention.

He didn’t answer. I have now written to him for one.

I have a totally unsuitable 300 Acre Solar Farm proposal in my constituency - that spans across 3 local Authority boundaries - Monmouthshire, Torfaen and Newport - that includes prime agricultural land. Land, that if the project goes ahead, will be dead land from then on.

This Candwr Solar Farm development needs to be stopped. For a whole host of reasons. But we need to protect prime agricultural land and use it for food production.

The Welsh Government doesn’t currently hold data on patients dumped from NHS waiting lists.

The new government must right this wrong. We cannot fix the waiting list crisis when the figures don’t measure the patients who’ve been quietly removed by the system.
