This free conference on Walking and Walkability is a must attend if you are interested in livability, health, walking as a mode of transport or part of a journey, urban design, walking for physical activity or just for headspace ... it has everything!
Over 100k observations about pavements' characteristics to address pedestrian accessibility in the biggest #CitizenScience initiative applied to #Walkability so far. Impressive project by @projsidewalk
¡Hemos logrado recolectar más de 100 mil datos sobre banquetas, el mayor ejercicio de participación ciudadana en plataformas digitales hasta hoy!
Este fue posible gracias a @projsidewalk el Municipio de #SanPedroGarza
Today @walkingmalta was presented at #TRBAM#TRB2021 in Washington DC and was featured in the APS Malta Sustainability Forum @apsbank by Carlos Cañas. Walkability at the centre of sustainability discourse 👍🏻
Understanding road accidents is the first step to improving road safety. Here is an article co-authored with @BajadaT about pedestrian fatalities and injuries. There is a 50-day free access if you are interested to read it! https://t.co/acaA5G3bTy
Thankfully, more and more people include active travel in their daily life in #Malta. But is it always possible to #walk & #cycle?
Join us on Sat 19 at 10am to talk about it. We want to learn from your experiences!

We give pedestrians like you a real say in urban mobility planning in Malta.
@walkingmalta participated in a public consultation on urban mobility organised by San Gwann Local Council, where key ministers & stakeholders heard about your pedestrians' experiences & concerns.
We'll be at @SciCityMalta. Don't miss the launch tomorrow at 12:00! Learn about our community research project and other cool research ready to #engage#empower & #enable!

Pedestrian infrastructure is the least expensive to build and maintain, while more people walking for short trips means less traffic congestion, better environment and healthier population. A win-win situation for all road users
Promising to see walking being considered as a legitimate means of transport in Malta. Plenty of room for improvement, but looking forward to seeing more paths all around. Pls make sure you consider pedestrians’ needs and concerns before you design and implement them accordingly
🚶♀️🚶♂️ Over 12 kilometres of new cycle lanes and segregated cycling and walking tracks, tens of kilometres of new footpaths and safer bus lay-bys. 👷♀️👷♂️ We’re working to help you get there safely. ➡️ #WorkingForYou#UpgradingYourRoadNetwork

@caminoescolar Hi @caminoescolar!
Los niños que disfrutan caminando a la escuela hoy, serán los adultos que caminen o vayan en bici a la universidad en unos años 😉
Check out this thread. When urban design is implemented without considering everyday pedestrians and cyclists' experiences and local knowledge... is often bound to fail
We’re launching! Join us for the official launch of the Active Travel Postgrad Network on Wed 4 November at 2:30pm. Please sign up on Eventbrite for log in details: https://t.co/yWHAHsQjqB. All active travel PGRs welcome! @Active_ATA
Pedestrian mobility should play an integral part in any transport project. Poor infrastructure & isolated measures compromise safety & discourage people to walk. While new road projects are announced and completed every month, this subway is desperately asking for attention...
@walkingmalta the new Kappara Subway to Zammit Clapp still unfinished, but pedestrians will still have to brave high speed traffic on the slip roads they have to cross to get to it. The underpass should be safer, getting to/from it will be lethal!
@fcassar@BriguglioMike All I have is this map with cycling routes around UM Campus, made by @suzannemaas. I think @BAG_Malta is working on some more routes. I'd love to help them with the maps. https://t.co/XC4SgYHH9o
Walking Malta is working on some interactive web maps that link safe walking routes between localities. Do you know how long it would take you to walk to your neighbouring localities? Which routes would you like to see on our maps? Let us know!
