A project of the Ethnic Heritage Center, Walk New Haven celebrates our diverse cultural heritage through multimedia tours of New Haven's historic neighborhoods
Another site in New Haven just added to the Connecticut Freedom Trail: a memorial to Lois and Lucy Tritton, enslaved women who were the last people to be publicly sold as property in New Haven. Auctioned off on the New Haven Green in March 1825, they later achieved their freedom.
Happy bday 🎁🎂🥳 to #Connecticut's only #Jewish governor, Abraham Ribicoff (1910-1998), #BOTD in New Britain in 1910. He served CT as state legislator and congressman before becoming the 80th governor in 1955, then serving in JFK's cabinet in the early 1960s, later U.S. Senator.
Thanks to Congresswoman DeLauro for visiting St. Michael's and trying her hand at the venerable #Ukrainian tradition of #pysanka decoration with our own Ethnic Heritage Center (EHC) President Gloria Horbaty! 🇺🇦🖌️🥚
I was thrilled to join the Ukrainian community at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Church for their decorating of pysanky – Ukrainian Easter eggs which I have long admired.
Thank you to Gloria for leading us in this beautiful process & keeping Ukrainian culture strong.
Did you know St. Patrick’s in New Haven was a Catholic parish church built in 1851 at Grand/Wallace for the growing #Irish immigrant community and served the neighborhood for over 100 years? Learn more in our recent Grand Avenue book! #StPatricksDay https://t.co/JHd8zv8CR2
