FOR SALE
Purchased this week at the Goffs Arkle sale from a family that I know well, lot 140, a good looking son of Gentlewave, out of incredible broodmare Miss Bailly, dam to Romeo Coolio (3x Grade 1 winner), Ascending Lark (6 wins and Punchestown Festival winner), Julio Coolio and Bailly’s Comet (listed place at Cheltenham as a 4yo). The dam doesn’t miss.
Having won 6 hurdles races in a row culminating with a Punchestown Festival victory with Ascending Lark I was keen to see her half brother at this weeks sale.
He stands at 16 hands, looks as though he still has some growing to do, has a fantastic walk, a lovely action, great head and honest eye. The family are all late maturing and continue to grow so I believe he will mature into a fine stamp of a horse as has his family.
He was purchased for €70,000.
I felt that Ascending Lark was as good a horse as I’ve had through my hands and she never got the chance to show just how good she was. This gelding comes from an amazing family and I am excited to see what he can do in the future.
Do get in touch with either me or Ed Bailey for more details.

A third course success for West Lawn!
The Clonmel Kid gets the final fence all wrong and West Lawn capitalises, leaping into the lead and kicking clear to score in good style...

We are rapidly approaching the first of our 15 fixtures in 2026 on Thursday 12th March.
We are delighted to announce an increase in prize money again for the coming year with all Steeple Chases (with the exception of our two Hunter Chases) run for a minimum of £10,000, Hurdle races a minimum of £9,000, with National Hunt Flat races continuing to be run for £6,500.
The prestigious “Heart of All England” Maiden Hunter Steeple Chase run on Saturday 9th May will again have a total prize fund of £8,000 making it the most valuable Maiden Hunter Chase in the country.
Our commitment to offer competitive prize money is a reflection on how we value the support offered to us by all Owners, Trainers, Jockeys and Stable Staff, we look forward to seeing you throughout the year and wish everyone success and enjoyable days racing at Hexham.
A story of two Fridays and two racecourses… an excellent 7 race card @HexhamRaces today, big fields, massive crowd, am sure a brilliant atmosphere and just shy of £90k in prize money.
Roll forward to next Friday, half an hour down the road at Grade 1 track @NewcastleRaces - guess there will be a very poor crowd, zero atmosphere and a measly £48.8k on offer for the 7 race card. Hexham actually market their media rights through @arenaracingco yet the latter can only just manage to put up half the PM of their neighbour, can’t be bothered to pull in a crowd and appear not to care (though they keep sending trainers bars of chocolate - is that meant to be some sort of bizarre apology?)
It’s nothing short of a disgrace and I’m really struggling to bring myself to make entries…. I probably won’t but it is really depressing the way that some tracks abuse their monopolistic control of our fixture list to the overall detriment of our sport - the road to nowhere @RacingPost@nickluck
