was thinking about the World Cup today and one random question sent me down a rabbit hole I did not see coming.

It ended with Christopher Columbus, Greek philosophers, and a king who loved football too much.

So here’s what hit me:
Greek philosopher → Columbus → steam ships → ocean liners → a Romanian king → players training on a swaying ship deck → Uruguay lifting the first World Cup trophy.
Human curiosity built the connected world. And the World Cup came with it.
