@ShinyHaunter05@Pokerocks297 > Pokémon availability (+ locking gen 4 evos to post game)
> Item exclusivity to post game
> most Pokémon having awful level up learnsets
> most random trainers being level 20 at the 7th gym, boring as hell
I like these games, but I’m able to recognise its weaknesses! :)
@TelfenTCG@solrocknroll 1. Pokeball Plus was pretty controversial when it dropped, in line with my point.
2. Dream Radar for example isn’t used as a defence for issues with bw2 the same way the Pokewalker is a shield against exp grinding or Pokémon availability criticisms
@TelfenTCG@solrocknroll What recent example, genuine question? Even then, game freak getting criticised these days is the status quo. LARPer is crazy I’ve got hundreds of hours on cartridge of HGSS, doesn’t mean I have to unquestioningly glaze them when there are actual issues with these games
@minxfrzz@Large_Puppet He spent a half a year + 125k getting that website and similar websites taken down. Obv it’s subjective whether he’s “repented” and no one has to forgive him but to say he’s “gotten away with it” as though he took no actions to remedy his fuck up makes him seem worse than he is
@ShadowxElsa@solrocknroll But it’s not the reason why it has a good reputation, that would be the visuals and sound design, as well as the Pokémon following you gimmick. Again I love these games but I don’t get why people rely on the Pokewalker in their arguments, 70% of the people playing never used it
@EmPedriBO@sparite@buizell How did YOU (the player) figure it out? Literally everyone I’ve seen has been under the impression that you are supposed to wait to get a call, not that you are supposed to call them, the game does not give any indication as to how this system is supposed to work.
@SPEEDE47@MitoRequiem Only DP have that pre E4 jump, in Plat the levels are dropped to be more in line with the level curve. Even then, a pre E4 jump is preferable to every wild Pokémon and trainer being under levelled
@jimmy3people0@Browningtons_ Wild Pokémon levels plateau to level 20 after chuck, so if you catch anything new that’s a two hour grind to bring them to a decent level
@DelightfulDende@GroundBack01@sparite It’s a lot less enjoyable the 5th time you’ve played these games in my experience, and they’re literally the only games in the series with this problem. I’ve loved HGSS since I was a kid but I can still recognise something that I don’t think has aged well!
@SpanishSebas@PirakaFury@ItsR0DR1 Adequate. Kids and new players are gonna intuitively guess you are supposed to call the npc’s at a particular time. I played these games 5 times as a kid and only learned about this recently.
Optional routes: genuinely what? Mt Mortar? Trainers are still like level 20
@SpanishSebas@PirakaFury@ItsR0DR1 Pokewalker -> it’s 2026, I have one but it’s dead and it’s not an excuse since most play emulator.
New route -> level 24 Pokémon. The fact the area atop the waterfall is the best grinding spot pre elite 4 doesn’t matter if the bar is on the floor.
Phone call rematches: not /
@GroundBack01@sparite Coverage existing isn’t a good excuse to make it a chore to grind up Pokémon you catch late game. The design inhibits you from messing around with your team and experimenting with new stuff
@GroundBack01@sparite They’re welcome until you want to actually play Pokémon. If you want to use vulpix, stand around like a dick until you get a phone call or do pokeathalon on fridays for a stone.
@GroundBack01@sparite I’ve never felt the need to grind in either of those games, because the difficulty curves in a way beyond just bumping levels. Even if you have to, grinding is trivial with Audino (you get a tutorial) and the infinitely rebattleable breeders in bw2
