Luxon promised his government would lower the age of bowel cancer screening to match Australia’s age, which is 45.
He lied.
Earlier this year, his Government announced it would lower the screening age - but only from 60 to 58.
Labour's Tangi Utikere told RNZ additional costs associated with the cancellation of iReX would cost $1.16b when including the cancellation of the deal and ongoing maintenance of the current ferries.
He said the decision to cancel iReX was reckless.

Here are the workers who are losing future pay rises, because the government can't balance their books. The one thing they overwhelmingly have in common these jobs are predominately occupied by women. But Brooke van Velden reckon she's on women's side?
“Karma is a bitch, and she votes”
From Auckland to Invercargill, crowds braved the rain today to express their anger at changes made to the Equal Pay Act, gathering outside the mostly empty electorate offices of MPs and Ministers.
Our tone deaf Prime Minister Christopher Luxon speaking from Tauranga insisted the changes ensured the pay equity scheme was workable.
Do the following changes sound very ‘workable’ to you?
•Increasing the threshold for when a claim can be brought
•A greater emphasis on ‘market factors’
•No ability to review a claim for at least 10 years
•No ability for workers to be paid equally any sooner than three years after a claim is settled
Meanwhile, rather than front up to their angry constituents, those MP’s facing protests argued they were battling ‘misinformation’ about the reform spread by opponents.
Here are some scenes and commentary, captured by the NZ Herald, from the hundreds who marched on Workplace Relations Minister Brooke van Velden’s office in Tāmaki Makaurau and the 200 or so who gathered outside Tama Potaka’s office in the mighty Waikato today.

"I am incandescent with rage at this Government’s cynicism and dishonesty. They are trashing our democracy, and destroying so much of what is good about New Zealand."

Simeon Brown has an established record of dishonesty. The Medical Council has every right to be worried.

I cannot condemn in strong enough terms the National-led government's use of urgency in the House to retrospectively invalidate 33 existing pay equity claims. In my view it amounts to constitutional abuse of the legislative process. We deserve better.
Prevention is always better than cure? So why as part of upcoming #austeritybudget is #NZ Govt cutting spending on programme that aims to prevent the need for people to end up in emergency housing? Makes no sense financially or morally. Par for the course? https://t.co/5h9X98NL6X
Yup. I’ll listen to and support the Doctors - not Simeon Brown - who is already starting to privatise our health system. So much for being a government for all NZers.
The health professionals I know are deeply offended by our deceitful health minister who keeps lying about how they don't care about their patients.
I think we're likely to see more strikes, unless Simeon Brown grows up, starts being respectful & pays them what they're worth.
