#China Mission – Day 5 🇨🇳 | Innovation, Competitiveness and the Future of #Europe

The third and final part of our mission consists of company visits in China. This is not only about economic contacts, but above all about gaining a realistic picture of the speed at which innovations are emerging and how global competitors are developing.

It is good that my colleagues from the European Parliament @Europarl_EN are also able to experience these impressions firsthand. I am convinced that, with greater knowledge of the actual developments in international markets, the European Parliament would have taken a more critical view of some proposals from the European Commission @EU_Commission during the last parliamentary term (2019–2024).

Some political decisions have contributed to Europe losing competitiveness and, in certain areas, to research, development and production being restricted or even abandoned.

The years between 2015 and 2030 are decisive for the distribution of prosperity, technological #leadership and industrial value creation in the 21st century. #History shows that #economic strength cannot be taken for granted. Those who slow down innovation, entrepreneurship and industrial development risk the long-term loss of growth, jobs and prosperity.
That is why political decision-makers in Europe must now have the courage to correct misguided developments.

We once again need an environment that promotes entrepreneurial spirit, rewards innovation and enables investment.
Entrepreneurs and workers must together have the opportunity to develop new technologies, products and #business models with passion. Only in this way can existing #jobs be secured and new ones created.

I was particularly impressed today by the visit to @MindrayGlobal. The company demonstrates impressively how China has also built a powerful #innovation ecosystem of its own in the field of medical technology. Mindray develops and manufactures state-of-the-art medical devices that are now used in hospitals and healthcare facilities around the world.

What is remarkable is not only the quality of the products, but also the enormous speed of innovation. Research, development and industrial implementation are seamlessly interconnected here. The company illustrates how consistent investment in technology and innovation can lead to global competitiveness within just a few decades.

The most important insight from this mission is this: Europe still has outstanding scientists, innovative entrepreneurs, strong companies and highly qualified workers. Our task is to shape the political framework conditions in such a way that these strengths can once again fully unfold.
Competitiveness, innovation and industrial strength must once again become guiding principles of European policy.
Only then will Europe be able to secure prosperity, jobs and technological leadership roles in the future.
