🤦🤦♀️2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between King Mohammed VI and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Their respective governments negotiate and implement several major economic and customs agreements.
Here is what is negotiated and recorded between Morocco and China in 2026:
1. Evaluation of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA)
China has formally proposed to Morocco the signing of a permanent free trade agreement.
Moroccan Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour confirmed in June 2026 that the Kingdom is currently assessing the industrial implications of this project before launching official discussions.
China is pushing for a reciprocal and sustainable market opening.
2. Entry into force of the "Zero Customs Law"
Since 1 May 2026, China has applied a total exemption from customs duties (zero tariffs) on products imported from several African countries, including Morocco.
This two-year temporary agreement allows Moroccan exports (olive oil, cosmetics, handicrafts) to enter the Chinese market freely.
3. Signature of three major customs agreements
On 26 June 2026 in Brussels, in the margins of the Council of the World Customs Organization, the two countries signed three strategic texts:
A Memorandum of Understanding on mutual assistance to combat commercial fraud and under-invoicing.
A mutual recognition agreement for Authorised Economic Operators (AEOs) to accelerate customs clearance and secure the supply chain between the two countries.
4. Investments in the energy transition and the automotive industry
The discussions in 2026 consolidate the establishment of Chinese industrial giants in Morocco, particularly in the battery and electric car sector.
Morocco is thus establishing itself with Beijing as the main platform for industrial links between Africa, Europe and the Arab world.
