Idea for the folks with undead OCs/favourite characters (be it ghosts, zombies, vampires, etc):
Draw this as them!! The first part being them when they were still alive, the second being how they are now
Guys I’m losing my mind I’m speaking on a panel at a big history of science conference this summer and I’m sharing a panel with two full professors who are really big deals in our little niche field- they were publishing in academic journals when I was in high school IM NOT READY
I love tomodachi life what do you mean I can put all the 18th century scientists I research on an island with the entire cast of American dad, my cats as people, every other random character I’ve ever hyper focused on, and a smattering of real world politicians??
Sometimes I see a picture of Saddam Hussein and it reminds me why when I was a kid I genuinely thought he was my grandfather because they looked so similar 😭
And I guess it makes sense in the age of AI that they don’t learn these skills - if you can always just ask ChatGPT the answer -not even sift through search results, why would you learn to think critically about where information comes from? You’ve never had to gather it yourself
Grading midterms and realizing how little these (200 level) college students know how to write about a source. Like, there’s no ability to analyze a primary source critically or think about why it is the way it is
I don’t want to sound like an old person but it’s a bad sign if kids in an intermediate level college class can’t analyze a source. It’s not just a useful skill in a history class, you need to be able to recognize the biases and merits of a source any time you read news
They can’t articulate “this source says this (subjective and/or incorrect) thing, here is why the author might think this and here are the facts to contextualize it” -they either describe the source in an uncritical summary or they don’t explain it at all and just say “its wrong”
