What does it really take to build Bitcoin infrastructure for Africa?
This panel, led by @mumo_mumo_ , gave us the answer not in theory, but through real people building real tools for real problems.
We heard from four projects doing the work on the ground:
🔸 @tando_me , co -founder @waithiraah – making it easier to spend Bitcoin in Kenya.
🔸 @bitsacco interim treasurer @smngaii – helping communities save Bitcoin together.
🔸 @DadaDevs, Project Manager @wandiology training African female engineers to become Bitcoin developers.
🔸 @bitika_KE , founder Fidel – giving people a way to buy Bitcoin without KYC
Each one built with Africa in mind, simple, smart, and rooted in our realities. Reminding us that the future we want won’t be handed to us. We build it. For us, by us.
VASPs Bill deep dive!
A full hour of pure signal as leading voices broke down Kenya’s Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP) Bill. In a powerful session moderated by @marcelorraine , panelists @statusquont , @WRoselyne_ , and @billokello explored the bill’s implications on Bitcoin adoption, innovation, and consumer protection across Africa.
They unpacked what this means for infrastructure builders, consumers, and regulatory clarity with live legal tools accessible via QR codes to support informed dialogue.
The session wrapped up with an engaging Q&A, where the audience got direct insights from the panelists.
And one thing became crystal clear: lawmakers and policymakers must be educated on this technology on Bitcoin, virtual assets, and the evolving digital economy.
Because meaningful progress will only happen when we come together, builders, legal minds, and decision-makers with a shared understanding and purpose.
🧵 Africa Bitcoin Day 2025 Recap: A Movement in Motion 🇰🇪⚡️
On May 31st, Nairobi witnessed something powerful: a truly African-led celebration of Bitcoin innovation, infrastructure, and inclusion.
From the moment the doors opened, you could feel it: the energy, the unity, the curiosity. We gathered not only to mark Africa Bitcoin Day but to welcome the newest plebs into the ecosystem, Bitcoin Dadas Cohort 8 and @DadaDevs 2.
The room was a vibrant mix of African fabric, bold faces, and eager minds. Guests were welcomed with warm vibes, thoughtfully curated kits, and a guided walkthrough of the day’s program.
Then, the day officially began not with pomp, but with purpose. A message from our founder @marcelorraine set the tone: “Africa must not be left behind.”
A deep dive 👇
Each session just keeps getting better! Today, we had an incredibly thought-provoking conversation led by @marcelorraine, joined by @gladstein. The discussion centered on Bitcoin for humanity, what freedom truly means across different regions, and how Bitcoin, when wisely used, can be a lifeline for those who need it most.
We also delved into the looming dangers of #CBDCs, exploring how they could pose an existential threat to financial autonomy. A particularly heated discussion emerged around the role of governments and institutions in shaping or suppressing economic freedom.
For many of the women in the session, this was more than just a talk; it was an awakening. The depth of the insights shared left most dumbfounded
A huge thank you to @gladstein for taking the time to engage with the Dada community. Conversations like these are what push us forward.
Until next time. ✌🏽
