President- Tennis Kenya, VP- Confederation of African Tennis. 🎾My head screamed no. My heart whispered yes. Reality told me not to but hope said give it a shot
The future of tennis may be unfolding quietly at the 2026 French Open in Roland Garros, but Kenya is right in the middle of that conversation and that should excite all of us who care about the future of #TeamKenya.
@wanjiii President of Tennis Kenya, has signed a partnership with the French Tennis Federation aimed at supporting the growth of tennis in Kenya.
The agreement, signed alongside French Tennis Federation President Gilles Moretton, focuses on a number of critical areas: junior high-performance pathways for players aged 18 and under, clay-court infrastructure development, capacity building, governance, and federation leadership management.
For me, one of the biggest challenges facing many sports federations is the gap between youth development and senior competition. We cannot rely on one generation of stars forever. Sustainable success requires a continuous pipeline of talent, supported by deliberate structures and opportunities.
One statement from Wanjiru particularly stood out:
“Let’s knock on doors and create genuine connections. This is the level we want to be in, so why not?”
That mindset is exactly what Kenyan sport needs.
As sport administrators, we have to pursue partnerships with countries and institutions that represent where we aspire to be. We must be willing to knock on doors, build meaningful relationships, strengthen our structures, and invest in the athletes who will carry our flag in the future.
It was also encouraging to see Kenya’s Ambassador to France, @BettyCherwon , and Ministry of Sports Secretary Administration Evans Achoki present. All this reminds me of the beautiful connections post Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Sport, at its best, is built on beautiful connections.
