🚨 Saudi found a way around Hormuz, and that workaround now runs through Yanbu and an 18-mile strait. The Houthis taking Mocha matters because it sits on that route

Before the war, Yanbu was loading about 0.75 million barrels a day. This year it peaked above 4 million, which is most of the crude that used to leave through Hormuz, now leaving from one coast

Around 3.3 million barrels a day of that was heading to Asia through Bab el-Mandeb. After the July attacks on Saudi-linked tankers those sailings were cut roughly in half, and Mocha makes the same passage harder again

There are also uncofirmed reports of fires along the East–West pipeline that carries crude across Saudi Arabia to Yanbu. Riyadh has not confirmed a hit. Even the possibility matters, because that line is what fills the alternative route

🔴 Some crude can still go north through Egypt. Diesel and jet cannot, so they either use the strait or go around Africa.

When he told the truth, they didn’t ask if he was all right. They didn’t sit with the image of a 76-year-old musician staring at his own hands, wondering if the music was gone. They condemned him for being honest.

He felt alone. Friends went quiet. The phone stopped ringing.

That is the part that should stay with you. Not the argument. The man. The father. The hands.
