It's official: the ballots have been counted and we have officially been recognized as the Washington Post Tech Guild by the NLRB! In a 171-38 BLOWOUT vote, we voiced loudly that our union is important to us! That's 81%!
We’ll share updates as bargaining progresses. Solidarity matters, and so does accountability. In the meantime, please send a letter to Washington Post management telling them you stand with Post Tech workers: https://t.co/DePQfuoMlv
Tomorrow, the Washington Post Tech Guild enters effects and decisional bargaining over the company’s illegal attempted layoffs of 76 of our colleagues. Our goal is to secure the best possible deal for our members: both those who want to stay and those who choose to leave.
To our colleagues: we’re fighting for you.
To leadership: the path forward is clear. Work with us in good faith and do right by the people who make this work possible.
Behind every role is a real person. These cuts don’t just impact workers: they impact the quality, stability, & future of the products our readers rely on. We stand together in solidarity & call for transparency, accountability, & respect for the workers who make The Post run.
Our Washington Post Tech Guild members are sharing what these attempted layoffs mean for them, their families, and the work that powers the @washingtonpost every day.
So today, we put up signs around The Post's D.C. office calling this out.
We need your support! Tell The Washington Post you stand with tech workers against union busting and illegal layoffs! https://t.co/DePQfuoMlv
Meet the union busters of The Washington Post!
Instead of following the law, Post management is pressuring Tech Guild members to accept defeat as they attempt to illegally lay off almost 30% of our unit (including most of our leadership team and bargaining committee).
This is despicable. After attempting to lay off almost 80 of our members illegally, The Post's CTO Vineet Khosla has tried to co-opt the #SaveThePost hashtag used by Tech Guild and @postguild members, community members, readers, & supporters to push back against these cuts.
If you care about supporting Tech Guild members, the workers who power The Post, please consider donating to our fund to “Stop The Bezos Bribe” and allow our members to fight back against these illegal layoffs. https://t.co/6QUuyyo5GP
Last night after working hours, our members who are being targeted for layoffs by The Washington Post were locked out of their work devices, platforms and The Post building.
When they came to work this morning - to continue the jobs they were hired to do - they were blocked from entering the building. Our members are still employees. We are in Status Quo, which means that these layoffs are illegal.
The public outcry has been clear: the people of D.C., the country and the world at large want the Washington Post at its full journalistic power and will accept nothing less.
The Post must now reverse course on violating the rights of their workers with illegal layoffs. CTO Vineet Khosla and Arc XP President Matt Monahan need to also be held accountable for their lack of courage and bad faith.
It's disheartening and infuriating that management at The Post has chosen to disregard the rights of the Tech Guild members & the rule of law by laying off tech workers. We stand united & determined to fight for our hard-earned protections & rights in this unacceptable situation.
