@aashisjo I don't think it's an either/or. We should not ignore securing access to basic technologies to relieve some burden of unpaid work on the expectation these people will have to flee their homes due to climate change. Perhaps more feminist-commons approach would be a compromise
@BarryESharp@jasonhickel The benefits are highly uneven - lifespans have not doubled for all social groups. Some developments made possible by fossil fuels are essential, others are not (and highly destructive). The ability to differentiate is crucial to minimise the worst eco and social impacts
@BarryESharp@jasonhickel That may be true but thousands of people die each year from pollution, ecosystems are suffering biodiversity loss, water is polluted, etc. there's so many reasons to change our current economic systems
@bitcloud@jasonhickel How so? Degrowth doesn't advocate economic contraction where needs are not met. It advocates for a more differentiated understanding of growth and limits than the current system
@heikelehner@0xSchnitzel If you think degrowth and recession are the same thing then you have not engaged with the topic sufficiently. @RBarnthaler responded to your tweet linking a range of articles detailing Eco-social policies that align with degrowth principles and look nothing like recession.
@T_Cortazzo@ecomEddie 100% also if Mike happened to have one or more kids his time would have to be organised completely differently and he wouldn't be able to pour every dollar into his own business with a goal of $1million, he'd have to settle for a roof over their heads, food and medicine
A picture paints a 100 words episode 1 million. This year, I will personally pay more tax than T-Mobile. Meanwhile their CEO gets about 300 times more than me, most of which will be tax sheltered. The one thing we all have in common. Everyone knows the game is rigged.
📢NEW PAPER📢
Vulnerability of livelihoods to GDP decline is a big problem, given secular stagnation, escalating crises & the need to reduce production/consumption to avert climate breakdown.
We show what creates this vulnerability & how to overcome it.

@EmmaDep@Hyannis321@MikeCarlton01 Geez. I am speechless. Your response terrifies me. I condemn all violence, as should we all. The nature of the response to the Oct 7th attack is disproportionate and we are witnessing extreme loss of lives and brutality. Shameful
@EmmaDep@Hyannis321@MikeCarlton01 "the aggressor must be eliminated" - statements like this justify the massacre of thousands of children and babies? Where is your humanity? Where are the aggressors and why can one of the most well-funded militaries in the world not differentiate between civilians and terrorists?
@EmmaDep@Hyannis321@MikeCarlton01 73 days ago I understood this logic, after everything that's transpired I am grappling to understand the ongoing intensive military response as anything other than grossly disproportionate and inexcusable
Yesterday, Israeli forces killed an 8-year-old Palestinian boy by shooting him in the head.
His name was Adam al-Ghoul.
If this was a 8-year-old Israeli boy shot dead by Palestinian forces, there would rightly be uproar.
There's none here because Palestinian lives don't matter
Solidarity with Palestine. My heart breaks watching thousands of children killed, countless homes bombed and sick and injured people left for dead in evacuated hospitals. This violence must end. Ceasefire now!
45 climate movement groups have published an open letter expressing solidarity with Palestinians in their struggle for liberation.
Other climate groups are also invited to sign: https://t.co/cZx9wsCH6n
