‘Sutlej (Punjab 95)’ is not just a film; it is an attempt to bring to light a chapter of Punjab’s history during which serious human rights violations allegedly occurred, and a generation of Sikh youth was allegedly targeted through fake police encounters.

Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra exposed the issue of the cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies and dedicated his life to uncovering the truth. He ultimately paid the ultimate price for his efforts. Several aspects of these events have also been examined before courts and human rights institutions.

We demand that the restrictions imposed on ‘Sutlej (Punjab 95)’ be lifted so that it can be screened not only on OTT platforms but also in cinemas, enabling people to understand this period of history.

At the same time, the Government of India should establish an independent Truth and Reconciliation Commission to investigate the truth regarding the alleged fake police encounters, enforced disappearances, and human rights violations that occurred in Punjab during that period.
