@_waterman@RezekJoe@S_Insley_H I had first-year writing students who told me they’d never written a “take-home” essay before! Only timed in-class essays as AP test prep. Still did well in the course, but could have had a better head start ☹️
I’m so honored to be among the remarkable 2024 MacArthur Foundation Fellows and grateful for the spotlight I hope this award will shine on Black women’s visions & struggles for reproductive & family justice. #MacFellow 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
📚 New Book Tuesday! 📚 ORDINARY DISASTERS: Anne Anlin Cheng’s personal exploration of race, gender, aging, and immigration, blending memoir & cultural criticism. MISTER, MISTER: Follows Yahya Bas, a revolutionary poet, recounting his rise to infamy & the scars of modern warfare.
@Evie_Writer Look out for an article by @cspaide on mourned musicians in American poetry (out in @Post_45 at the end of the year)! Focuses on Terrance Hayes (James Brown), Cathy Park Hong (Biggie), and Tommy Pico (Dolores O’Riordan), and touches on many others. + it’s beautifully written
I feel like we have the opposite problem in the humanities: publishing in special issues as a junior scholar can be special & good for your career, but the process is often opaque & info is fractured and inaccessible! I'm working on a project to help address these issues :)
@pslycnrd@MModernity@AtPost45 I think special issues are an especially opaque part of academic publishing -- may be worth contacting editors of journals you like even if they don't have a call for proposals on their websites
Incredible stories of editorial intrigue in this new special issue of @Post_45 ed. @groenbot and @evanbrier! Thru rich archival research, these articles bring "fine-grained attention to the modes and effects of creative practices enabled by specific instances of editorial work"
