@brendan_cubs Another narrative out the window. He’s probably not going to turn into Rickey Henderson or anything but he doesn’t need to because of all the other skills he brings to the table
A day or two ago, people were telling me that PCA wasn’t even a top ten most valuable player in the NL. I’d maintain, he’s easily #2 right now behind Shohei. Players with gloves like his aren’t supposed to be this good at the plate
@SUZUKIMUZE@TheBlogfines So instead of expecting players to hit the way they’ve always done, you just surrender the season? I mean, you could be right, but it’s not like your choice is better.
@amazingdanwally@Sox_Savant It’s because PCA is very good but a lot of what makes him good is less tangible unless you look at defense very closely. So judging PCA (or Witt) without considering that each of them are amazing at their position is missing half the story.
@brewersravens11@_A13lo@yelichfans@PeterAppel23 I mean, it’s true as of right now. If you understand things like the defensive spectrum, and all around player value, it’s easy to see. And I provided a stat that backs me up and the reasons why. He is insanely valuable, he’s currently the most valuable position player in NL.
@brewersravens11@_A13lo@yelichfans@PeterAppel23 B it instead of writing all that, I just point out his WAR. Just easier first people but some people seem to want the novel, so, whatever. PCA is insanely valuable and has been the most valuable position player in the NL this year.
@brewersravens11@_A13lo@yelichfans@PeterAppel23 It’s just a shorthand for this guy is at this level of a player. For PCA, it means he’s a solidly above average bat and base runner who plays every day at a key position to the let left of the defensive spectrum and is the best defensive player at that position since Andruw Jones
@brewersravens11@_A13lo@yelichfans@PeterAppel23 Sigh. I already went over this once today. WAR is just a shorthand for “he’s the best all around player in the league” but instead I say WAR. you guys are terrified of new information I see.
@brewersravens11@_A13lo@yelichfans@PeterAppel23 He’s number one in Fangraphs WAR amongst position player bro. Can you help me here? What does the v mean? I always thought it was value. But I guess it means, best random hitting statistics with no care about fielding value or position. Thanks for that! 👍
@TheEducator23@bruggshoops@FullCountTommy I ain’t no spring chicken myself. Thing is, waiting until someone is a hall of famer to declare them good is not enjoyable. Pete is good. There is reason to think he will stay there. Part of his value is how his the defense lifts his floor. Kind of like Ozzie Smith
@HalaCaraXXes_@blakecowellx I mean, they are not even close. At least with this comparison, you have a solid defensive shortstop against a generational glove center fielder. Now you start talking about third baseman and he needs to hit ALOT better than PCA to be more valuable
@onenonlybucky@CorySchmitt4 If you say so. I see some regression coming. His current wOBA is .405 but his xwOBA is .360, actually lower than PCA’s current xwOBA. Much of it is BABIP based. And he needs to hit WAY better than PCA to catch him in war. Fangraphs projects him for 4 War this season
@TheEducator23@bruggshoops@FullCountTommy He’s not a hall of famer because that’s a larger conversation. Someone wrote this and I agree. If PCA gets to 300 HR, he is going to waltz into the Hall of Fame. Currently he’s 1/6 of the way there, so he’s on his way but needs to keep hitting to get there.
@onenonlybucky@CorySchmitt4 I tried to just say war but you were too scared so I broke it down and that’s apparently scary too. So you just have decided what you think and are unwilling to hear anything different I guess.
