However, this institutionalization gives over-arching powers to what is essentially #economicorridor, at the expense of the local citizens who have to accept the law as binding. As a result of this, people who voice their concerns against #CPEC are viewed as being against state.
The #BRI corridor in Pakistan, #ChinaPakistanEconomicCorridor is governed by a constitutional mechanism which gives credence to its institutional framework, ensuring its sustainability.
The #BRI in Pakistan, known as #CPEC, has now transitioned from Phase I (energy & infrastructural development) to Phase II (rapid industrialization). But simultaneously work on Phase III (socio-economic development) is also ongoing.
However, the recent protests across Gwadar (the epicenter of CPEC), by the local fishermen highlights that no 'real development' has come to the country, while this corridor is one other attempt by the PRC to expand its influence in the region.
CPEC is one of the six corridors of the BRI, & the only one that has progressed from Phase I (removing key economic bottlenecks; energy & infrastructure) to Phase II which focuses on rapid industrialization, socio-economic/agricultural cooperation and promoting b2b collaboration
