The name and the insignia on the dial both come from Merrill's Marauders, the WWII unit formed in 1943 to fight in Burma. The unit was a precursor to the modern 75th Ranger Regiment, the culture of which is built on their legacy.

The watch is the Gold Squadron variant, which, in contrast to the commercially available version, has a simpler “two-line” dial with “PELAGOS” executed in gold and “660 ft”. Most visibly, the hook and loop strap has a “gold” center stripe, in contrast to the regular red stripe.

British Army issuing Casio F91Ws to new recruits. Ally.

Last month, the British Army announced that new recruits will receive a welcome pack containing a notebook, a pen, a letter of congratulations, and a Casio F91W.

The F91W is just as iconic as the Rolex Sub, and has been used on both sides of every major conflict since the early 1990s. Pre-9/11, AQ reportedly handed out F91Ws to new recruits at its training camps… so the British Army is not really the first to put one in the welcome pack
