My Impressions:
Kyomi continues their packaging with a magnetic front-flip box that is thoroughly themed with Jane all over its contents which continues to make an enjoyable unboxing experience amongst the glass market. I tend to not care too much about accessories in products but it’s always nice to see the improved detail on things like the metal card. Jane displays an assortment of blue colored tones through its glass which really pop and vividly set this fractured reality style of art that NIKUMAN beautifully illustrated. Structurally, Kyomi stuck with the 2.2mm profile that we saw with Ryo and Yuyo. Although we are seeing more trends of even thinner pads I think 2.2mm will forever be a safe sweet spot that allows for pure comfort from arm to pad on a desk. Edges were consistent and have improved since Ryo as well centering wise. As technology and consistency continues to improve within the glass market I don’t think we will be complaining about glass comfort for a while. The base kept the same Kyomi branded silicone grid but keeping with the theme of a dark navy blue. Random side note, beast x temperered and beast x celadon are perfect visually with this pad!
Surface:
I personally enjoy finding a surface I grow really fond of to see that company further refine or make newer iterations that keep that identity and Jane is exactly that! Ryo has remained my favorite from their lineup and after putting some time on Yuyo a few months back, I remember saying it's nice to have such a refinement but now I would like to see a perfect in between of the two texture wise. Jane has a unique grain feeling to the touch and leaning on the dryer side from the coating but not as dry as some of my Dysphoria pads and definitely not as wet feeling as the Shion. Since Jane has a very dense texture with a little bit more abrasion than Yuyo, skate selection matters a ton to get a desired feel out of the pad. My Beast X Mini with Kibu Shiros brought out that texture pretty heavily. Inclinometer tests had static friction starting around 5.08°, giving it a coefficient of 0.0889 and I tested with Dynamic friction drop tests at 15° and 21° angles. My findings were right in line with what was advertised, bringing Jane right over the edge in speed over Ryo and Yuyo. For non-sleeve users, the skin feel is remarkably smooth, but similar to all my pads, I still resorted to using my sleeves for maximum consistency.
In-Game Performance:
Jane delivers a glide that bridges the gap between raw speed and tactile control that I could feel in game. Until other similarly advertised pads arrive, I can say that Jane is my fastest textured pad in my collection. Like most extreme speed pads, pushing down gives you a deceleration and not much bite. Jane similarly does this but depending on your grip and playstyle, natural hand heaviness and tension makes people feel like the pad is slower than what it really is. Ryo had this sentiment and although these pads do offer more control with pushdown I can easily say that Jane has lessened that effect from Ryo. It really is a crazy refinement of the two that I feel while gaming. The Finals tracking was butter and didn’t have to worry much about tension management but also that strong tactility gave semi-auto type weapons such control. The faster a pad gets, I always wonder if my clicking scenarios will suffer and thankfully all static and dynamic clicking scenarios in Kovaaks remained the same or improved. When gaming, I tend to play similar scenarios or games while switching out pads within that gaming session so that I can truly dial in my comparisons and for my followers I would say Jane reminds me most of a slightly faster more textured advent or like mentioned above, the faster baby of Yuyo and Ryo. Gaming these past two weeks has been a pure joy though, Jane is easily in my top 5 rotation but many of you know that I love texture.
My Cons:
My recurring critique for these newer releases remains the sizing. While 490x420 mm is very workable for most setups, I would still love to consistently see 500x450 mm like we saw on the original Ryo release.
Minor Disclaimer:
Just like the Ryo and Yuyo, the Kyomi Jane is firmly an extreme speed pad with a high skill ceiling. It is not particularly beginner-friendly and requires good independent mouse control and refined tension management. If you are coming straight from a mud pad or heavy cloth, the low static friction and speed potential will take some adjusting although I believe tactility is the single best thing for beginners. All subjective at the end of the day!
Conclusion:
With the Jane, Kyomi has successfully crafted a pad that uniquely unifies the best attributes of their previous lineup. It takes the tactile, high-density texture profile of the Ryo and fuses it with the fluid, effortless glide speed and refined characteristics of the Yuyo. The team at Kyomi continues to refine and stay in their lane of improving their surface characteristics and fine-tuning glass for speed enthusiasts. Variety will forever be a joy! Hoping to see more new design philosophies next. Just my unwanted input but I would love to see a Speed(balanced leaning) heavy textured pad with Kyomi’s touch next! Let’s slow it down just a tad perhaps although I’ll gladly still accept speed and texture!
Thanks for stopping by!🫶
