🚨🗣️New: Arsene Wenger on Spain performance against Argentina in the World Cup finals, Technique overcame athleticism tonight:
“People will talk about passion, intensity and physicality, but football has never belonged to the strongest runner. It belongs to the strongest mind. Spain reminded everyone of that tonight. Argentina came with power, aggression and relentless pressing, yet for long periods they were chasing ghosts. It was like watching a bull charge at its own shadow while the matador had already moved. That is the difference between athleticism and intelligence.
Spain’s midfield dictated the rhythm with one and two-touch football, constantly creating numerical superiority between the lines. Every time Argentina stepped forward to press, Spain manipulated the spaces behind them. Their first touch wasn’t just technical—it was tactical. They received the ball already knowing where the next pass would go, making Argentina’s athletic advantage almost irrelevant.
Modern football has become obsessed with speed, duels and physical data. Everyone wants faster players, stronger players, bigger players. Tonight was a reminder that the ball always travels faster than the man chasing it. You cannot sprint faster than a perfectly timed pass. You cannot outmuscle a team that keeps moving you from side to side until your legs become heavier than your ideas.
This is why Spain have always been unique. They don’t try to overpower you; they slowly remove your belief. Every completed pass is another question your opponent cannot answer. By the final stages, Argentina were not just tired physically—they were exhausted mentally. They were running, but rarely arriving.
Technique did not simply beat athleticism tonight—it humbled it. In football, intelligence is the engine, technique is the steering wheel, and athleticism is only the fuel. Without the first two, the tank eventually runs empty.”
🚨🗣️New: Messi on Argentina’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup final:
Reporter: Leo, a heartbreaking night for Argentina. A 1-0 defeat in the World Cup final. What made Spain so difficult to play against?
Lionel Messi 🗣️: First of all, congratulations to Spain. They earned it. It’s painful because when you face a team that values the ball the way they do, you end up running far more than you play. You spend so much energy trying to win possession back that when it finally arrives at your feet, your legs already feel heavier. That’s football at the highest level.
“It’s a combination, but Spain deserve most of the credit. They don’t just keep possession, they make you suffer without it. Every player wants the ball, every movement creates another passing lane, and every pass has intention. They stretch the pitch when they attack, then close every space the moment you recover it.
As an attacker, those are the hardest games because you keep making runs, looking for spaces, but the ball rarely reaches you. Not because your teammates don’t want to find you, but because Spain never allow the game to breathe. They dictate the tempo from the first minute to the last, and when a team controls the rhythm like that, they also control your confidence.
Football isn’t always won by the team that creates the most spectacular moments. Sometimes it’s won by the team that controls the silence between those moments. Tonight, Spain did exactly that. They played with composure, intelligence and personality, and they deserved to be world champions. It hurts because we know we could have offered more, but against a side of that quality, even the smallest drop in your level is enough for them to punish you.

¡Vamos, España! 🇪🇸💪
