Drama MBC #PerfectCrown makin kena imbas besar gara gara kontroversi distorsi sejarahnya. Bahkan sekarang muncul petisi resmi di situs Majelis Nasional Korea yang meminta dramanya dihentikan dan kontennya dihapus dari platform OTT.

Penulis petisi menilai meskipun dramanya berlatar Korea fiksi, produksinya tetap dianggap sembarangan memakai pakaian, tata krama, dan istilah ala Tiongkok sehingga dinilai melakukan distorsi sejarah dan budaya. Mereka juga menuduh drama ini bisa jadi celah buat narasi Northeast Project/Tiongkok mengklaim budaya Korea.

Tim produksi sebelumnya sudah meminta maaf, mengedit subtitle dan audio, sampai akhirnya menghapus adegan kontroversial tersebut. IU dan Byeon Wooseok juga ikut mengunggah surat permintaan maaf tulisan tangan.

Namun kontroversinya belum mereda. Per 23 Mei sore, petisi tersebut sudah ditandatangani hampir 15 ribu orang dan akan dibahas resmi di parlemen Korea jika mencapai 50 ribu tanda tangan dalam 30 hari.
