Remember when the DA and EFF won a court case to prevent the VAT increase? Well, they saved each household R5,12 for every R1000 in food expenses.
Now, if they had fought and won against the latest electricity tariff increases, they would have saved every household at least R88 per R1000. With even much more substantial savings for households in metropolitan areas.
And then there's a second-order effect. Whereas in the VAT calculation many basic foods don't pay VAT, electricity costs do feed into the production and distribution costs behind those groceries.
So, when we look at the real cost-of-living impact, the electricity tariff increases should be a much more substantial target for political attention than the defeated 1% VAT increase. But, as always, political parties seem to have a special talent for picking pointless battles.
Since 2024, SA banks received a massive unearned windfall from the @SAReserveBank , which has been paying them repo rate on the R150 billion excess bank reserves created when govt spent R150 billion from its GFECRA savings at SARB.
The repo is at 7% which means banks are receiving R10,5 billion from that alone.
When banks pay their shareholders dividends earned from the monetary and fiscal operations of the rand issuing state, those payments add to broad money supply. This is inflationary.
So the question then becomes, why doesn’t the SARB rather limit bank profit and sterilise some of the excess reserves created from the state’s monetary and fiscal policy, at 0 cost, by simply raising the amount of required reserves using its tiered excess reserve system?
Is it corruption?
It seems a bit coincidental that the GFECRA spend only became acceptable after the SARB switched to paying banks interest on excess reserves in 2022.
I’ve written a few articles about this. Links below.
My leader @Constitution_94,
I took this screenshot hoping to use it in the next few years as I had a feeling it might be needed. But it seems like its need came to quick.
Do you want to comment before I continue?
This is what I mean when I say South African women are brave. ❌
“How are you South Africans where I am There are 40 companies involved in this project, all employing undocumented migrants while operating near a police station. We are here to ensure that the youth of our community are given employment opportunities.”
Andrea "Law101" Johnson said Dineo has a #MEGAtronics qualification. 😅
Comm Khumalo heard it, left it uncorrected for a moment, let it marinate... then khaaBOOM!🔥
When they got to the relevant page, Khumalo calmly pointed out:
"By the way, it's #MECHAtronics, not MEGA..."
Brilliant timing. 😂👏🏿
#Ps: Can someone verify if Andrea's law degree from UDW is a real thing mara?
Maybe the one arresting "unqualified" MBA students is actually the one with a bogus law degree all these years, asazi🤷🏿♀️
I thought I should share just a clip where Advocate Muzi Sikhakhane spoke at the launch of Vuka Azania. There will be a Black Convention at a later stage, which I must say I look forward to, where Black people will come together and talk about what they call "The Black Condition", talk about our problems without any interference.
As a Think Tank, they are not a political party. They believe our people need Education and Healing. In my view, it is a movement similar to what Afriforum is to Afrikaners and White people, which I feel we desperately need as Black people. I appreciate the Advocate and his colleagues for coming up with this progressive initiative. 🙏🏽
I'm glad that Advocate Sello didn't wait for her to finish making the point she was trying to make...
The Mother, Aunt, ethical legal guru in Advocate Sello was awaken and couldn't tolerate Jonhson to continue humiliating and dragging Dineo's name to future crimes she hasn't committed.
I'm glad they stood up for the truth without fear not favor

This movement needs our support. It’s an effort to unite blacks across the political divide. It must become our own civic movement to push the black agenda! Vuka Azania!
📑 | 𝗩𝘂𝗸𝗮 𝗔𝘇𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮, a civic movement was lauched in Sandton today. Co-founded by Advocate Muzi Sikhakhane SC, Dr Allan Boesak, former State Intelligence Head; Arthur Fraser and Prof. Issac Shai outlined a vision of African self-determination, land restoration, economic transformation and cultural renewal.
The black forum [not a political party] says it plans to call for the return of land to indigenous people, greater black ownership of the economy, decolonised education and governance. The restoration of African identity and heritage, renaming of South Africa to "Azania," and the establishment of a "Second Republic" founded on what it describes as justice, sovereignty, dignity and the full liberation of black people.
Patrice Motsepe is saying borders need to be removed from South Africa. He is saying the same as Julius Malema, and Cyril Ramaphosa. If this guy becomes the next president, we are f*ed as a nation in South Africa. Borders are there for a reason, and they are all pushing for it to be removed.
