“In this time of court delays, overuse of remand and miserable prison conditions, it seems petty and vindictive to order the removal of artwork that might offer a source of hope in court custody suites.”

@davidicke It’s going to be very interesting to see what they’re going to do with people who’ve been banned and lost jobs amongst other things as a result of this. How can such loss be quantified and how quickly will they be assessed?
This is a bedsit for young people transitioning out of care at 18. What you can’t see—or hear—is the pounding music from other rooms, the adults drinking and taking drugs, the constant stream of strangers drifting in and out.
Fear doesn’t even begin to cover it.
I was 16 when I left care, and this was my reality too. Twenty-eight years on, nothing has changed. The same chaos. The same danger. The same silence from the people who are meant to protect these young lives.
And now even more young people are taking their own lives because the system still refuses to support them. The government could change this overnight. They just choose not to. @SkyNews@NickMartinSKY@LBC@educationgovuk
The perpetuation of the imprisonment of people on IPP sentences remains an enduring stain on our justice system.
It was abolished in December 2012 because it was accepted by all that the sentence was wrong in principle.
Yet we continue to inflict this punishment on about 950 people who have never been released; there is no justice in continuing to treat them differently to any who committed similar offences before April 2005 or were sentenced after December 2012.
Read our latest briefing, focused specifically on an amendment relating to IPP sentences, as the Sentencing Bill reaches its Committee Stage in the House of Lords.

This is a horrifying scandal and there should be an urgent inquiry established.
