Guys let’s pray for good rains this year. Dams and boreholes are running dry by the minute and if we don’t get rains this summer then next year will be a very very tough year for Zimbabwe. 🙏🏾🙏🏾Can’t do much but pray. We need water
Remembering a legend: George Tawengwa ,Rhodesia’s first Black millionaire.
Long before independence, Mr. Tawengwa built an empire across hospitality, retail, agriculture, and transport. His Mushandira Pamwe Bus Service, aka Matemai, became a national brand in the ‘50s.
In 1960, he made history by becoming the first Black person in Rhodesia to purchase a 4,526-acre commercial farmoutright Rhodesdale.
In 1972, he broke more ground ,literally ,by becoming the first Black person in Rhodesia to build a hotel from scratch: Mushandira Pamwe Hotel in Highfield.
By 1977, he wasn’t done. He pulled another stunner, acquiring five more farms including Sandra, Keal B, Sheba, Mhendamu, Billiard, Vuma, and land in Hwedza and Gokwe
He also built the George Tawengwa Centre in Marandellas (Marondera) and ran retail shops, service stations, and a fleet of taxis ,all in the analogue age!
150 buses. Multiple farms. A hotel. Shops. Taxis. Fuel. All before tech or independence.
A true legend of Zim’s entrepreneurial history.
Salute 🫡 George Tawengwa.
