Gordon Brown sold 12,712,000 ounces of gold at a historic market low for revenue of $3.5 billion.
Sold today at $4,721.64 per ounce that would net $60 billion.
Or £44.05 billion.
Welcome back.
This image says it all.
Top image: what you actually pay.
Bottom image: what fuel could cost without tax and VAT.
Unleaded shown at 143.9p becomes 67.0p.
Diesel shown at 166.8p becomes 86.1p.
That tells you exactly how much of the pain at the pump is government-loaded cost.
And then they wonder why people feel like they’re being robbed.
IR35 is a classic case of jumped-up bureaucrats meddling in what they don’t understand. I just detest it. It sums up so much of what is wrong with doing business in modern Britain.
It punishes the self-employed, strangles small business flexibility and pushes entrepreneurs away from risk.
Contracts evolve. Projects shift. That’s the nature of modern work. These little people would understand that if they'd done a real job in their lives.
IR35 pretends every arrangement is fixed, permanent, and suspicious. For small businesses, it’s horrific - hiring freelance talent becomes a legal minefield, so they just don’t bother.
Fewer contracts, fewer opportunities, less growth.
Nice one, HMRC. Great work. As always.
IR35 kills the spirit that drives the economy forward. It discourages risk. It creates fear. That is NOT what you want in a business. It's all risk. That's the point.
We should be making it easier to start, hire, grow, invest, build - not putting up ludicrously confusing barriers.
If the Government wants more revenue, here’s a mad idea...
SOD OFF, and get the hell out of our way.
Scrap IR35.
@ba55bar He also got team names wrong. Too busy trying to come up with pathetic dad jokes probably.
Never fails to ruin a race the second he opens his mouth.
This is what being a @watsonfuels customer is like today. 7.5 degrees in our lounge.
Let down after let down and leave your family freezing.
A massive thank you to @SodburyFuels for saving the day. You've gained a new customer.
@gohenry my daughters balance has been updated but not to the correct amount. Are you done with your fixes yet or should I wait to see if it updates further?
How can you STILL not have issued a tweet to update customers? Appalling customer service!
@gohenry You might want to move the message in app. It's there for a split second under the biometrics login dialog so was unable to read it. Best to show such messaging after login is complete maybe?
