@elonmusk I might find certain content of interest but that doesn't mean I want to be shown that kind of content to the exclusion of everything else. Is there a way for us to opt out of this algorithm?
The Stark Reality: Imagine if campaigners' dreams come true and water companies perfectly meet the Environment Agency's (EA) effluent standards. Guess what? We're still in a mess. Why? Because the current standards are nowhere near enough to tackle the real problem.
The Inadequate Standards: These standards set the bar at 25 mg/l O2 for Biochemical Oxygen Demand and 125 mg/l O2 for Chemical Oxygen Demand.
In plain terms, this means heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors, and microplastics are NOT required to be filtered out.
Yes, you read that right. The EA doesn't even require water companies to remove these harmful substances. It's beyond staggering.
The Resulting Catastrophe: With such dangerously low standards, the ongoing pollution and destruction of our waterways aren't just happening; they're legally permissible. And the kicker? Many water companies don't even meet these minimal benchmarks.
The Unanswered Question: Why on earth aren't water companies required to filter out the real villains - heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, endocrine disruptors, and microplastics? What's the malfunction here? Is it incompetence or an intentional path to environmental ruin?
In This Glaring Neglect: We're watching our rivers turn to poison under the guise of protection.
The Permissible Disaster: All of this is allowed because of the EA's desperately low standards. We need to raise the bar on final effluent standards NOW.
Call to Action: Share this post and help hold these inept clowns to account. It's time they pulled their finger out and mandated new, raised final effluent standards TODAY!
