@velocipedeliz@MistressPrime Bit witchcraft existed long before Wicca. Therefore, from my point of view as a Pagan-Not-Wiccan, it would be like calling a flamingo a penguin simply because I favor penguins. There were names for witches and Pagans long before. Also, I should add that I'm not trying to argue or
@velocipedeliz@MistressPrime That's where a plethora of other questions come up for me, especially in coven structure and hierarchy. Though, I understand the questions can come off as possibly condescending or stupid via text/limited tweet space.
@velocipedeliz@MistressPrime I understand he's not the founder of Wicca, but he wasn't Wiccan, historically speaking. That doesn't mean his work is invalid in practice or usage by the Wiccan tradition - just like Correllian wasn't originally Wiccan if it predates Wicca.
@MistressPrime@velocipedeliz I'm approaching this question from a historical view rather than a spiritual one: how does a faith exist before it's founded? Unless we're speaking of Gardner's workings and researching prior to 1951.
@velocipedeliz@MistressPrime Kinda. With Wicca being an organized religion, from what I understand, a Wiccan tradition would need to be recognized by the Wiccan religious structure, no?
@velocipedeliz@MistressPrime Pagan traditions have been contributing to other religions and cultures since the dawn of faith. However, we wouldn't put the Pagan "stamp" on someone posthumous simply because of shared ideas or workings.
@velocipedeliz@MistressPrime I did. While Charles Leland may have been a witch in his own right, his workings predate Wicca's founding - even if his work contributed to the belief structure. Where I'm coming from is the confusion regarding placing a religious association with someone after death. (Cont)
@velocipedeliz@MistressPrime Again, confused. It was adopted as a Wiccan tradition circa 1904, but Wicca didn't come to be until 1951 per Gerald Gardner?
@velocipedeliz@MistressPrime It is very semantic-y, but I do want to make sure I'm being accurate for the sake of it all, since the timeline is the major thing being questioned, if that makes sense.
