Always with the cosmetic solutions. A national tragedy occurred and the first response of a serving senator is to offer foreign scholarship to one of the survivors because he was dazzled by an interview.
What about the 37 that died? What about the other 30+ that survived? What about the other hundreds still depending on the mining trade to survive? What about justice? What about accountability?
What that boy and all the others need is basic respect as humans. They need basic amenities to live a conducive life. They don’t need some fancy abroad school. They just need the basics. Focus on that first.
The reported deaths of scores of suspected illegal miners in NSCDC custody in Minna are deeply disturbing, especially against the backdrop of the earlier killing of an NSCDC personnel who was reportedly shot in the head during an operation at the same illegal mining area more than a month ago. If confirmed, this is no longer simply a question of enforcement it is a grave matter of accountability, security and the value placed on human life.
How can 30 people or even a fraction of that number be locked inside a detention facility and allowed to die without immediate intervention? Was nobody watching them? Were there no guards conducting routine checks? When did they become critically ill, and why was medical assistance apparently not provided quickly enough? These are basic questions that the authorities must answer publicly. A claim of a suspected disease outbreak cannot by itself explain how detainees under state custody could die in such numbers.
The authorities owe the families and the people of Niger State more than condolences and assurances. They owe them answers, evidence and accountability. The deaths must be independently and thoroughly investigated, including the condition of the detainees when they were arrested, what they ate or were exposed to, the detention conditions, the medical response and the exact timeline of events.
As we write this, protests and unrest are reportedly spreading across Minna, silence and vague explanations will only deepen public anger.
Nigerians deserve to know exactly what happened.

🔴⚪️ Gary O’Neill: “Arsenal are one of my favourite teams to watch and to study, for the work that Mikel's done there”.
“It's a very humble team as well, there's no superstars in it, there's no one that doesn't get their work done”.
Ed Sheeran’s band, Beoga, have dropped out of his tour:
“We have made the decision to depart as Ed Sheeran's band on the remaining US Loop tour, following the silencing of Macklemore by zionist lobbies.”
All of Ed Sheeran’s openers have now withdrawn from the Looper Tour. Please realize how big this is. This is what unity looks like. Billionaires are terrified of people realizing how strong they can be when we come together for a cause. Continue speaking out. Support the new artists that are deciding to put their careers at risk to take this stance.
Jay Bothroyd is a legend. Calling out Howard Webb is great TV but breaking the 4th wall is even funnier. He really said "put the camera on me" before demanding answers from refs. We need more TV broadcasting like that. Broadcasters are meant to be extensions of fans!! A1 stuff
RIP Bothroyds career.
But he’s gone down fighting with integrity!!!! Well done @jaybothroyd 👏🏼 millions of fans around the world, in fact probably billions. Actually salute you. A man who wants the game cleaned up saying this on the corrupt channel @SkySportsNews is class 👏🏼
“Premier League referee” is deadass the only job on the planet that you can making wrong decisions that badly affects someone and all that happens is “sorry” and on to the next.
Any other job, you’re getting fired. It’s ridiculous. They need to be held accountable.
'If Howard Webb's objective was for VAR to be used as a “safety net for those clear errors”, he has failed and should be brought to book.
'In the self-styled best league in the world how is it that embarrassing incidents such as this appear to happen with such frequency?'
