@mattyglesias Overall pretty bad but an Iran in civil war wouldn’t be making drones for Russia any more for what that’s worth. Trump wants to install a compliant dictator and that might be doable but wouldn’t last long.
@mattyglesias Actually somewhat encouraging that 40% of Rs reject the stolen election claim, which is Trump's core principle and which he demands his followers accept.
@mattyglesias@daveweigel A lot of arguments are basically well you do that too, which I find frustrating because it’s not clear whether you’re saying it’s bad in both cases or good in both. Usually they mean it’s bad when you do it but not me.
@mattyglesias An unintended consequence may be that a lot of guardsmen go back to their red states and tell people that DC is actually a pretty cool city to visit.
@mattyglesias Earlier immigrants not welcoming newer ones is common -- happened with Jews in the late 1800s and in the great migration of the 20th century. Agree though that it's strange something this harsh isn't more disturbing.
@GregTSargent Part of the problem is "the opposition party". Responses by a party are inherently seen as self serving or propaganda. Individual D's, especially if not in a current race, can have more credibility. They should certainly get over being defensive on this issue.
@mattyglesias It seems though that the business world does not fight the corruption, because no one wants to be on the wrong side of that game. A healthy system is a public good and advocating for it is a net cost to most even if they would benefit.
