JUST IN: The Hongqi Bridge in Shuangjiangkou, Sichuan, has collapsed just months after opening. Preliminary reports suggest cracks in the nearby mountainside—linked to water storage at a local reservoir—led to the failure. Officials in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture confirmed that the bridge at the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station had collapsed, with no casualties reported. Reuters noted the 758-meter bridge in Maerkang had been closed a day earlier after inspectors found shifting terrain and cracked slopes.
