This February 13 — Wear Red Day — we’re shining a light on how heart disease can look different in women.
When we say women’s heart disease is “different,” what we mean is…
Many women don’t develop heart disease from blocked arteries. Instead, the issue can be in the smaller blood vessels or in how the heart muscle works. These conditions may show up as symptoms like shortness of breath, unusual fatigue, chest discomfort, heart palpitations, dizziness, or exercise intolerance… and they don’t always appear on standard heart tests.
That’s one reason women are more likely to be misdiagnosed or told their symptoms aren’t heart-related.
Understanding these differences is key to improving diagnosis, care, and outcomes for women — and Wear Red Day is a powerful reminder of why this matters.
