Curious, fandom-loving, greyhound pal. Managing Support Engineers @pagerduty. Trans rights are human rights. Black Live Matter. She/her. Views are my own
You may be hearing the argument that before the rise of modern commercial infant formula, babies all ate breastmilk and everything was great. As a historian of infant feeding, let me tell you why that’s not true.
I’ve been gratified hearing from many people who have said that they’ve followed my lead in deciding what they'll do, and not do, in various stages of the pandemic.
It’s a particularly confusing time now, so today’s 🧵 is a summary of the choices I'm making these days. (1/25)
It sucks when folks don’t understand the fight against fascism is one fight, because the fascists do. They’re attacking trans, gay, and all queer folks. They’re attacking the teaching of race and Black voters. And they’re attacking women’s right to abortion. It’s one fight.
Why we can't stop saying gay, a story
On the first day of my senior year of high school, a new boy showed up in my AP English class.
He had transferred from a prestigious private school to my public school, and I was confused.
I asked him why he moved and he shrugged

There is a *massive* amount of social power in being able to get away with being an asshole or doing or saying things that make people feel shitty without those people feeling like they can say something back to you about it.

I've spent countless hours working on HB 1795 with @LizBerryWA, @KarenKeiser1, @wela_law, @IfeomaOzoma, @nsapiro, writing to senators (like @KenFockele!), house representatives, journalists, and public outreach.
I'm so grateful for everyone.

@nothe@chris_page Uhhhhhh it’s always an adventure to see what kind of nonsense y’all get up to in sessions where I’m out. 😅

103 years ago this week, 60,000 workers brought Seattle to a standstill in a five-day general strike. Right now, 300 striking @teamsters have halted the city's construction industry, and are still holding the line as they fight for what they deserve. https://t.co/exQgEMKg39
@KentBeck Keeping folks in dev away from customer interactions helps to prop up development work as inherently more valuable than customer facing work. Both are vital, but one gets dismissed and undervalued.
@neil_killick The support team probably wishes that distance was smaller too! If they haven’t been outsourced or otherwise siloed away from development there can be fantastic outcomes when devs build strong relationships with folks on support.
@sigje Some dog rescues will gladly take blankets for their kennels. That’s one that has felt good to me to feel like that special human/canine love continues to make the world a little better.
