@extralovingcup Hi there, thanks for the suggestion. The DNR is currently looking at other options for admission, including the license plate registration model. The use of windshield stickers is defined in state statute, so we will be working with elected officials on any future plans.

@paulswansen 6/6 Also, the EPA’s Fire and Smoke Map has started utilizing corrected data from non-regulatory sensors to fill the spatial gaps between regulatory air monitors. The map displays regulatory monitors as larger dots, while the non-regulatory sensors are displayed as smaller dots.

@paulswansen 5/6 The EPA map calculates AQI using a slightly newer version of the approved algorithm. Third-party applications may not use standard algorithms to calculate their indices. They may call their index AQI even if their algorithms are different, which can create discrepancies.

@paulswansen 4/6 The DNR map (https://t.co/mBGPRxf4ew) displays the AQI based on pollutant concentration data collected from regulatory monitors in Wisconsin using an algorithm defined by EPA. The raw hourly data are transferred to federally supported data sources such as EPA’s AirNow Map.

@paulswansen 3/6 The DNR partners with the Bad River Tribe to operate an air monitoring site in the neighboring Ashland County. Criteria pollutants monitored at this site include ozone and particulate matter. The DNR does not have funding to support monitoring beyond federal requirements.
