The way #web3 has changed tactics on DAOs is interesting.
V1: tokens for all, vote on everything
Major flaw, everything is really slow.
V2: core team, initial traction, token launch, distributed governance
Pretty much identical to startups eventually going to IPO.
V3?
#NFTs have a tonne of potential but if McDonald’s doesn’t even sell both Pepsi and Coke why the hell would we think games will add compatibility for whatever random items you have in your wallet.
Game devs like scarcity too.
Has anyone built a platform to swap #NFT without it being swap to a currency on the way through?
We never traded Pokémon cards to cash then bought each other’s cards.
@dr No reason it has to be lifetime access either (for those worried about https://t.co/JNzBEFuMPU).
NFT can be for a season, year, month etc with the right metadata.
web3 discords seem to be fueled by a healthy mix of self-interest and group-interest.
Something to be learned there in general community building.
Not knowing who is fueled by which, but assuming it is group-interest by default, seems capable of building community momentum.
@K4y1s 💯 I am all for making PoU as open as possible but if COVID-19 has shown us anything it's that we need experts more than opinions most of the time.
The next big challenge for DAOs is going to be proof-of-understanding. Especially as the scope of a DAO becomes more specialized.
@_buildspace is showing early promise in this and it is massively underrate IMO.
A short 🧵
On the same note, PoU doesn't need to be 1 vote per person. A given DAO may issue 10 lessons each granting 1 vote on completion.
A PhD in climate science might net you 100 votes (with DAO approval).
