When a Hollywood producer approaches Ross McElwee about remaking his classic documentary SHERMAN'S MARCH, he looks back on a lifetime of what his camera has captured and what remained out of frame.
REMAKE opens in New York on July 10.
Wow, Chicago! STEAL THIS STORY, PLEASE! had the BEST opening weekend of any documentary in the past 25 years at the Music Box!
We’re filled with gratitude for the passionate organizers, engaged audiences, and the broader community that gathered around the film.
“We need to be able to lift up what’s happening in our neighborhoods.” Thanks Jesse Hoyt of @ONENorthside for reminding us the power of community.
STEAL THIS STORY, PLEASE! is screening nationwide. It's never been more urgent to amplify stories of neighbors supporting neighbors.
Thrilled to announce that we'll be bringing J.M. Harper's moving and essential documentary SOUL PATROL to theaters this Fall. This Sundance award winner, based on the bestselling memoir by Ed Emanuel, reveals a hidden chapter of American history as the Vietnam War’s first Black special ops team reunites to tell their story.
Doc10 2026 may be over — but we’re got more programming ahead!
Stay tuned for more screenings of inspiring docs, and impactful conversations on key issues, in the months ahead!

@dkrishock@DavidAFrench@wearecmp This is a film by @alexgibneyfilm who showed the horrible truth of this attack very well -- he even included footage of the attack on the Chautauqua stage. I'm not sure it is viewable yet -- I don't see it on the streaming services, but I saw it at Chicago film festival Doc10!
Words are not violence. Violence is violence. The story of the attempted murder of Salman Rushdie should remind of this… and encourage us to try to have one ounce of the courage he’s shown over the past few decades. @wearecmp

Thanks to the amazing audiences who joined us for 10 days of inspiring documentary films at the @davistheater and @filmcenter — plus all the filmmakers, partner organizations, sponsors, volunteers, team members, and everyone who makes Doc10 possible!
Onward to more impactful documentary films!
Celebrated novelist Salman Rushdie and Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney helped us close Doc10 2026 in style, screening their captivating new film KNIFE: THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF SALMAN RUSHDIE and discussing it in Q&A, alongside Rachel Eliza Griffiths and Bethany McLean.
Thanks to everyone who joined us for our powerful screening of "ICE Under Watch" — seeing first-hand accounts that bring humanity and context to the injustices, hearing from filmmakers and activists, and connecting with local organizations about ways to fight back.
That's what Doc10 is all about: inspiring action, community, and change through nonfiction film.
