🚨 BREAKING: The EU Commission confirms there will be NO pause, NO grace period, and NO 'stop the clock' mechanism for the EU AI Act. The enforcement timelines remain the same. Way to go, Europe 🎉

According to Reuters, Thomas Regnier, the EU Commission's spokesperson, said on Friday:

"We have legal deadlines established in a legal text. The provisions kicked in February, general purpose AI model obligations will begin in August, and next year, we have the obligations for high-risk models that will kick in in August 2026."

100% agree.

As I wrote before, the absence of both the Code of Practice for GPAI and the EU AI standards (which are delayed) are not an impediment to the enforcement of the EU AI Act, and they should not serve as excuses to change its applicability timeline.

More than ever, the world needs Europe to stand by its principles and regulatory foundations (especially given the federal vacuum in the U.S.).
