@kingbritt @UQ_News I've been trying to find the earliest recordings of Indigenous musicians in Australia (my grandfather was the first Aboriginal member of parliament in Australia so it's a bit of a family research mission). Australia overall however has surprisingly excellent music archives!

@chloerobinsondj We were lucky in the old days, as we could dig around the vinyl box, cue it up, smoke a ciggy, vibe out a little. Now the pressure to PERFORM while also not really straying from "only this DJ mixer, only this default FX" is a paradox. So many tools, so little creativity?

@chloerobinsondj The pandemic lockdowns were the tipping point on the social media trend. Streaming sets are great, just awkward how few DJs make the most of the technology now versus... four minutes of pretending to do anything on an already produced track.

An amazing #retrosynthads from the Dutch marketing team for @moogmusicinc in 1983. An insane year when you think this dropped right after Roland's Jupiter-8, and right before the Yamaha DX-7 would change the industry for decades. If you want original #synthwave vibes this is it.

As an Australian act we're justifiably proud of the incredible Fairlight CMI being invented and built here. As the world's first digital sampler, it was an iconic sound of the 80s, and a global phenomenon. #retrosynthads

It's no secret that the 1980s were a strange time for #retrosynthads. Roland bringing a lot of fierce attitude here but I can't help but think... what would be harder at a gig, running a System-100 or wearing leather/plastic jumpsuits?

A pretty terrible effort from Roland in today's #retrosynthads. But a good reflection how far we've come as an industry for inclusivity. Women were the first synth pioneers, so this rubbish from the 80s aside, we're finally back to acknowledging that everyone is welcome here.

In case you thought it was only about the 1970s #retrosynthads... here's a forgotten slice of the 80s. This is one for Alex Ball or @soundgas to showcase (I think Gid still has this hairstyle). We've never played one IRL, but the YouTube vids are great.

Slightly optimistic #retrosynthads swagger here from ARP, and sadly, despite the success of the #arp2600 (which we use in Segue) and Odyssey, it wasn't enough to keep them afloat into the digital era. A legendary lineup all the same.

Here's one of the Korg #retrosynthads that couldn't resist emulating the visual style of @sequentialLLC as they pushed into the US and European markets. Refer to our last post for a perfect A/B example. Tough for the companies, great for us kids seeing the ads in music mags!
