Babies are born with low vitamin k for a reason.
At birth, cord blood is full of stem cells that go to any damaged sites in the baby where any trauma may have happened during birth. If babies had high levels of Vitamin K at birth, the cord blood wouldn't reach these necessary areas.
This is one of the reasons why delayed cord clamping is so important!
