Educators have a strong influence over the lives of their students. They can easily mirror our attitudes and beliefs we show in the classroom. We must be mindful of our pedagogy practices when teaching on topics like power, privilege and racism.

The criminalization of black girls in the school system is an awful reality. As educators, we have to rally together to dismantle the policies set before us. Every child deserves to have opportunity. A zero-tolerance response does not give them this opportunity.

As teachers, we have the power in our hands to create a curriculum that promotes an anti-racist education. We are doing a disservice to all students if we sit idly by ignoring the truth about racism. To teach for black lives means to uproot the white washed curriculum. #TCH26410
