Nigerian and African parents have this backward mentality where they force kids to cut off their hair because they associate it with being a "bad boy," yet they cherish and admire Western hairstyles.
It’s the same issue with most universities in Nigeria. They don’t allow students to grow out their hair, plait it, or even have tattoos. But why? A university is a place of learning, and these students aren't children anymore—they are adults. Let them be, and let them express themselves. Stop forcing grown adults to shave their heads.
Growing out my hair or plaiting it doesn't define me as a criminal, a dullard, or someone who is unserious about life. Your appearance has absolutely nothing to do with your academic performance or your character.
We are sick and tired of this colonial, slave mentality on our campuses and in our homes. Repost this tweet if you want the government to put an end to these outdated rules.
