The question might seem trivial, but give it a moment’s thought:
Why does Venice 🇮🇹 float?
What does it rest on?
And, most importantly, why doesn’t it sink?
A Thread🧵 to explain it to you
- If your goal is speaking/listening prioritise pinyin and don't worry too much about hanzi
- Get regular feedback from native speakers, particularly important to check you're getting the tones right
- I used Pimsleur (many years ago pre-apps) found it quick and effective, but I was living in China at the time so was fully immersed
- When you have some basics, start a weekly group with some native speakers, first half-hour speak only Chinese second half-hour discuss a topic, can use English, e.g. Ordinals. That way you can add some niche vocabulary to your repertoire whilst networking and having fun
